Hey, I can't figure out what's going on with this podbook and the ones from your previous post. They download as, for example: 'Identity Crisis.m4b.mp4' and will open only in QuickTime. If I try to change the tag, my Finder crashes.

Help!

ETA: Further info. I think the problem lies in changes--of which there are many--made in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, which I upgraded to and am now playing around with. Of course, I have no idea at this juncture what the problem is or if it will be resolved in the future, but at the moment it appears your podbooks are not compatible with the system.

Anyway, I re-downloaded one of your older podbooks, which did not present a problem in OS X 10.6, and the same thing happened. The new OS doesn't recognize the files as m4bs and adds the mp4 tag at the end after downloading.

I don't know if this will happen to everyone who upgrades to Lion or if it's some setting I have enabled somewhere. If I find out more, I'll let you know.

Final Update With Workaround Solution:

Okay, here's where I am now. The files still download as 'title.m4b.mp4' and are identified when I Get Info as MPEG-4 movies, which open by default in QuickTime. If I try to remove the .mp4, my Finder hangs and has to be relaunched.

To get around this, I've used 'Get Info' in the Finder to change the default on all such files to open in iTunes. Hopefully this won't cause problems later on with real MPEG-4 movies, but it should be okay since I don't mind if all these open in iTunes instead of QuickTime.

If anyone else runs into the same problem, this solution should work for them as well. :-)

Sorry for the many edits. It's hard to type with 13+ pounds of spoiled black cat handing over my left shoulder.

Thanks so much for the heads up on this, and the workaround! Unfortunately, I'm on Windows OS, so there's not a whole lot I can do unless the software developer releases an update :(

Although...could I ask one more favor? Would you be willing to try downloading and testing either the Peck on the Lips anthology or the Amplificathon 2011 New Fandoms anthology? I actually use two different programs for audiobook conversion, and I know I definitely used the other one for both of those. If those work, then I'll just start using that program for compiling exclusively. It's a bit fiddlier, but if it'll help out the mac people, I'm willing to make the sacrifice ;)

Interesting: that one downloaded without the .mp4 tag being added.

Chapter & Verse it is, then.

Would you like me to make an info:podbooks post detailing this problem, your workaround for end users, and my workaround for compilers using Windows OS?

Sounds like a plan. There might not be a lot of early adopters of Lion like me, but if this is something that isn't fixed, it would be good for everyone to have the information.

Finally posted! You may want to keep an eye on the post, so you can answer any Mac questions that may come up ;)
