I am a teenage girl who keeps this LJ as a pseudo personal journal/fandom outlet. Mostly, because I type faster than I write so it's less tiring when I fashion MEGA posts of DOOM (aka. epic ramblings) rather than spend hours writing it in a book that could easily get lost in a fire or something equally devastating. Don't worry though, those don't come around too often (the large posts or the fires). A lot of the little posts are a couple lines of fandom. No one in my school appreciates the same things as I, and that resulting feeling of isolation is what the internet can mend.
Amphitritie has been my web moniker since I was thirteen and I use to n00b out on RP forums. We have no secrets here.
Religion wise, I attend the Unitarian Universalist church, but I wouldn't identify myself any which way. My mother is strictly atheist and father's agnostic, despite both coming from Jewish and Roman Catholic backgrounds, so I'm getting confused messages. I'm an open minded individual and basically anything goes. I believe there are higher forms of consciousness that do not rely on physical matter, however I am unsure whether it is possible for us to attain this level. They do not exercise power any power over the physical realm, but different interpretations of them has contributed to the creation of all the religions in the world. So, every religion has truth in it. What I call God is a collective term for this higher form and the bit of in each of us that remains once we distance ourselves from our physical selves.
Now let's be frank. Sex. Yes, we had to get there sometime. I don't believe in labels; I just like who I like and that's that. Gender is fluid and one should love who they love. I believe, humanity has reached that stage where homosexuality is not a threat to a population, why keep outdated ideas in a changing world? I except those of all sexualities and if anyone offends me by showing homophobia and/or a reluctance to be educated about the homosexuality they will promptly banned.
f I had to say I'd classify myself as mainly lesbian-wouldn't-throw-Robert-Downey-Jr-or-anyone-from-Fake-News-out-of-bed. My fulfillment of gender role changes with the seasons, winter more masculine, summer more feminine. Although, you will never see me wearing makeup outside of costume, because I believe too many women throw their money away and become to reliant on cosmetics: the result is becoming dependent upon expensive layers in order to generate any self-esteem and thus perpetually unsatisfied with their regular image. Not healthy at all.
I go to public school in the New York City suburb area, which means constant access to one of the greatest cultural centres! The Natural History Museum is my favourite. I'm glad to be especially privileged, doing things like going to see Das Rhinegold and being able to fall asleep in the middle and still say I liked it. Although, I feel I'm a New Yorker through and through, I'm also fiercely proud of my ethnic background. Cambodia! (I'm adopted) So, I'm always open to finding new outlets by which to embrace my heritage.
Academics wise, I'm very good. Top 10% material. I want to be a neuroscientist or clinical neurosurgeon, so I've embraced Science Research programs and the Biology sector. Also, in my spare time, despite these not leading down a career path for me, I work as an illustrator, author and philosopher.
My parents both work for the UN so we get the opportunity to travel a lot, and I believe everyone should try to travel as much as they can in their lifetime. Not only is it exhilarating and interesting, it's important for people to develop more worldly views.
* I'm always plugged into the internet somewhere. Isn't it scary though, how in fifty years time this "googling" and having to physically type in our demands may seem so primitive?
* I'm legally blind, from congenital glaucoma. I've been told I'm able to compensate pretty well for losing total sight in the left eye and being nearsighted with not peripherals in the right. I still am not allowed to drive, risk I'll kill someone there shall always be, but I have no issues with that. Public transportation is your friend! Besides, I'm told that my glasses feel like drunk goggles on normal people. ^^
* Book obsessive here! As you probably gathered I've read extensively from a very young age (I come from a very literary family.) So far, I buy almost every single book I read. Not having surpassed 20 years of age and my library already exceeds 600, but I haven't counted in two years. So far, it's over spilling from my four bookshelves and the fifth in the basement and half of one of my parents.
* Fandom is love. I have lots of favourites. I can't even list them.
* I'm obsessed with foreign languages: currently I'm studying Spanish and Japanese, but I'd also enjoy taking Russian, Swedish, German and Khmer. Yes, most of these won't help me at all in life, but I don't care! This for MY personal interest. Such vibrant, developed, fascinating cultures to be explored!
