So opens the obligatory introductory post. Why? Because I found a friending meme! Hello all!
Before I go in and tell you lotsa stuff about me in an unusually egocentric post (hey, why don't old friends play the see how many I actually knew about her game!) I have a few things.
1) The Trojan ecstasy commercials on Colbert Report = lol
2) THREE DAY WEEKEND BITCHES! Time to sit back and relax write an essay on Middle Eastern trade between 1000-1500 AD. FUN.
3) Games shouldn't have age limits. Like I understand between 8-80 limits, because it's about ability to understand and physical capabilities in playing. But, people who are able to surpass the limit can still play, because it's a board game. What about computer games? Why can't I play OREGON TRAIL, because I'm pass Junior High?! I used to own the game, but lost the disk, so can't even reinstall for nostalgia. I just wanted to get diptheria one more time . . . but NO I'm to OLD for that. Stupid school deleting my applications.
4) Today, I fail in productivity. I had meant to get up early and do tons of schoolwork so my week would be a breeze. Yeah, awaking at 11:00 still wearing all my clothes wasn't in the plan. Although, have any of you ever noticed that it feels different waking up in clothes? Not just physically, I mean, but mentally?
But I digress.
I am a teenage girl (Blargh! Already I'm filling stereotypes) who keeps this LJ as a pseudo personal journal/fandom outlet. Mostly, because I type (80 + wpm) faster than I write so it's less tiring when I fashion MEGA posts of DOOM (aka. epic ramblings.) Don't worry though, those don't come around too often. Amphitritie has been my web moniker since I was thirteen and I use to n00b out on RP forums. We have no secrets here.
Religion wise, I attend the Unitarian Universalist church, but I wouldn't identify myself any which way. My mother is stricly atheist and father's agnostic, despite both coming from Jewish and Roman Catholic backgrounds, so I'm getting confused messages. It also makes this statement very ironic.
"An agnostic is just and atheist without the balls to say so." - Stephen Colbert.
Now let's be frank. Sex. Yes, we had to get there sometime. I don't believe in labels (except for shock value, in confidently applying them to myself). I tell people I'm bisexual (or lesbian for the snide guys), but in reality I just like who I like and that's that. Gender is fluid and one should love who they love. Sexual openiness happens when you first guide is the book Middlesex (possibly my favourite EVAH, but still a shocker for 11). I believe, humanity has reached that stage where homosexuality is not a threat to a population why keep outdated ideas in a changing world? But, if I had to say I'd classify myself as lesbian-wouldn't-throw-Robert-Downey-Jr-or-anyone-from-Fake-News-out-of-bed. Despite, I keep my overall appearance feminine: slim, bright coloured dresses, pink tinted glasses, occasionally painted nails and jewelery. Although, you will never see me wearing makeup outside of costume, because I believe too many women throw their money away and become to reliant on cosmetics: the result is becoming dependent upon expensive layers in order to generate a self-esteem and thus perpetually unsatisfied with their regular image. Not healthy at all.
As you can probably tell, I've already developed strong opinions on many topics (although, this is only quick summary.)
I go to public school in the New York City suburb area, which means constant access to one of the greatest cultural centres! I'm glad to be especially privileged, doing things like going to see Das Rhinegold and being able to fall asleep in the middle and still say I liked it. (And this was only the FIRST part of Ring Cycle, the shortest!) Although, I feel I'm a New Yorker through and through, I'm also fiercely proud of my ethnic background. Cambodia FTW. (I'm adopted.) So, I'm always open to finding new outlets by which to embrace my heritage. (Thank you SO MUCH
quadruplify , for that link!) In fact, in looking for colleges, one of the reasons why I've cemented UCBerkeley as one of my top choices (although, I know my chances of getting in are low) is, because it offers Khmer classes!
Academics wise, I'm very good. Top 10% material. Except maybe that'll change this year, because of AP World. I fucking hate this class. The teacher is awful and the work takes 4-7 hours, but she seems to think we only need 1 to do it thoroughly. Doesn't matter though, just need to get it out of the way so I can focus on my other studies. I want to be a neuroscientist or clinical neurosurgeon, so I've embraced Science Research programs (I'm working on declarative memory systems of the brain) and the Biology sectors. Have any of you ever read Oliver Sacks? Great books, those are what first turned me on to the idea of studying the brain when I was 11. And it's stuck for so long, that must mean something. Also, in my spare time, despite these not leading down a career path for me, I have pursue a personalized Studio Art curriculum and am a diligent member of Creative Writing, Film, Philosophy and Model UN clubs.
My parents both work for the UN so we get the opportunity to travel a lot, and I believe everyone should try to travel as much as they can in their lifetime. Not only is it exhilarating and interesting, it's important for people to develop more worldly views.
OTHER THINGS:
- I'm always plugged into the internet somewhere. Isn't it scary though, how in fifty years time this "googling" and having to physically type in our demands may seem so primitive?
- I'm legally blind, from congenital glaucoma (perks being I get to attend awesome blind camp in New Hampshire, where I'm one of the most sighted.) I've been told I'm able to compensate pretty well for losing total sight in the left eye and being nearsighted with not peripherals in the right. I still am not allowed to drive, risk I'll kill someone there shall always be, but I have no issues with that. Public transportation is your friend! Besides, I'm told that my glasses feel like drunk goggles on normal people. ^^
- Book obsessive here! As you probably gathered I've read extensively from a very young age (I come from a very literary family.) So far, I buy almost every single book I read. Not having surpassed 20 years of age and my library already exceeds 600, but I haven't counted in two years. So far, it's over spilling from my four bookshelves and the fifth in the basement and half of one of my parents.
- Fandom is love. I have lots of favourites, so it'd be easier to check out my profile for that.
- I'm obsessed with foreign languages: currently I'm studying Spanish and Japanese, but I'd also enjoy taking Russian, German and Khmer. Yes, most of these won't help me at all in life, but I don't care! This for MY personal interest. Such vibrant, developed, fascinating cultures to be explored!
Ah, would I were a German!
I'd trouble my translator
...With nouns the size of Hamburg
And leave the verb till later.
And if I were a Welshman
My work would thwart translation
With ninety novel plurals
In strict alliteration.
And would I were Chinese!
I'd throw them off their course
With twelve unusual symbols
All homophones of "horse".
But as it is, I'm English:
And I'm the one in hell
By writing in a language
Impossible to spell.
Can't think of anything else, but feel free to ask questions! Here is a cool video, how I have come to commonly end my posts. Why yes, I AM a Ghostbusters fan.
