Never Could Get the Hang of Thursdays

Sep 30, 2010 19:44

All right, so I had some idea that this would be in coherent and linked paragraphs, but I wrote the draft for this yesterday and all I have sitting on my desk is a list of bullets and I can't for the life of me figure out their relation to each other except that I thought of them. So bear with me if this appears somewhat disjointed.

-I hate shaking hands with people. Especially, since when I just meet people they don't know about my vision impairment and hold out their hands. It's awfully awkward when it takes me a full five minutes or maybe not at all to realize they had a hand extended. It's rude and I really LIKE shaking hands, which is the ultimate travesty of my situation.

-Today was a great day in I was able to sleep in until 8:40 (well, sorta since at 7:20 I heard my dad right outside my door yelling at my mother in the shower: SHOULD I WAKE HER UP? NO? OKAY. WHY'S SHE SLEEPING IN ANYWAY? I'M NOT YELLING! SHE CAN'T HEAR ME! but, after burying my head under the pillow too tired to yell at him I went back to sleep), because I only had to go to Spanish and Biology and Art. So, in preparation I wanted to stay up EXTRA late last night. Except the night before that I'd gotten only 5 hours so I was really tired all day. Solution: caffeinated tea! 8:30 at night. It's this special roiboos chai blend I bought at the local Teavana (great store). After all, I had to have some leaves to boil in my special iron cast traditional Japanese teapot, ne? Anyways, this stuff is great. It smells slightly like coffee, but tastes of tea and leaves (pun totally intended) a lovely glowing feeling inside the body. I spent at least an hour after downing a whole pot jumping/running up and down the stairs. Thankfully, I had a legitimate excuse in that my sister kept calling me to help her with Physics or forgetting to feed the dog or needing to pick up my Sudoku book (of which I made it to puzzle 40~!)

-Started reading Lolita. This is a fantastic book and although I know it holds a fair amount of squick material I'd definitely reccomend it. Humbert is a sympathetic narrator despite any reservations I first had due to his perversions (which I still find sick, but I think I'd classify it more as a mental obstacle. It's not like he openly goes out and molests them). If I can get through this when the little girl in question has he same name as my grandmother so can you.

-I had to work in a group of 12 students for World History due tomorrow.  Except reading over the sheet, I realized that the rest of the group, who were creating a chart on the floor, were only doing HALF the work. Only two others had actually taken notes on what were supposed to present and this worries me on the quality of my grade and I don't UNDERSTAND why the ignorance of others means I have to work harder! Of course, I know it's a principle most of society is based upon, but it doesn't mean I have to like it!

-My Model UN has finally settled on attending peemonk or Princeton Model United Nations conference.  For a four day trip, it costs surprisingly less than I anticipated, around $200. I suppose the school budget covers it, because it is educational. So far we're waiting for our country and council assignments to arrive. Our top five choices were: Russia, Burma, Turkey, Greece and Thailand. Personally, I want to be either Greece (because it was my idea and I think it would  be cool to roleplay a country whose decisions might be biased due to who it needs to ally with to survive the economic crash) and Thailand since it's he closest I'll get to Cambodian and ETHNIC  PRIDE~

-I haven't yet, but tonight I fully intend to harangue my father until he buys me tickets to the Trans Siberian Orchestra Winter Concert. I'm considering either Philly or Hartford as they're about an equal 2 hour drive from my house. Alternatively, I could just hop on the train. But, you have no idea how exciting this possiblity is! I've been waiting for an awesome concert from them and Nick tells me it is epic beyond proportions and this is coming from a BLIND MAN, so it should be even more mindblowing with increased sensory perception. My sister's promised to accompany me just for strobes. (EDIT: Hartford Show on November 6th!)

-BBC Drama 2010 Preview looks epic! It's not as aesthetically pleasing as the Winter/Spring preview IMHO(may be due to the Cave being a fantastic and beautifully haunting soundtrack, but it definitely looks like a better season. AlanRickman/Emma Thompson! And all three Doctors. And Matt Smith as a gay man in Nazi Germany! And Mark Gratiss in HG Wells adaption! And lots of period dramas with spiffing costume pieces! Lesbians! Colonizing new planets! Love triangles!
