So, tonight
illama & I spent a truly ridiculous amount of time waiting for our food at Cracker Barrel. When the food finally came, we decided that the delay was caused by the chef's desperation to make the bacon sufficiently 'crisp', as per our food order.
Which of course turned the cook in to Walter:
"No, no, not crisp enough. I think if I cook it 2.3 minutes longer, it would be perfect! Oh, no, now it's burnt." etc.
And then we
Peter is the put-upon manager, trying to get Chef Walter to just make the food people order/want instead of whatever catches his fancy that day.
"Custard? Walter, you were supposed to make pie! No one likes custard!"
"People love custard!"
"No, they don't. If they liked custard they'd order custard! Just make the pie!"
Astrid is, of course, Chef Walter's sous chef. She spends her days trying desperately to keep Walter on task and finishing the orders that Walter ignores. She's an awesome chef but doesn't get credit for it.
Olivia is the waitress who's good at her job but occasionally gives away that she thinks the customers are idiots. And/or has "accidents" with jackass customers and/or creeps who try to pinch her ass.
Charlie is the awesome waiter who's is just the right amount of friendliness and helpfulness. Everyone hopes they're in his section; he knows the regulars, gets their drink orders as soon as they come in, asks about the kids.
Phillip is the waiter who hates being a waiter and is only doing so until he can finish writing his novel. He points this out to everyone at any opportunity, including the people he's supposed to be waiting on.
Nina Sharp is the Regional Manager who shows up every now and then to give Peter directives that he largely ignores, but smiles and nods while she's there.
And William Bell is the eccentric restaurant owner who shows up once or twice a year with some crazy directive, like: "only Heinz 57 sauce served with the french fries from now on!" Or "all milk needs to be 2% organic!"
No, really, we spent WAY too much time giggling about this. It may've been hunger. But we had a good time despite the 45 minute wait...
