I has a new car!
The pretty generous settlement (and really, nothing but good things to say about State Farm--the accident happened Sunday evening, I contacted the agent Monday morning, released the car to them Monday afternoon, and by Tuesday morning they had appraised it and offered me a settlement. By Wednesday morning I had my check, and by Thursday evening I was in a new car) enabled me to put about a third of the purchase price down and to pay for the extended warranty (7 years/100,000 miles) up front (much to the Honda financer guy's dismay).
I've driven quite a lot this weekend, so I can get used to it. It's sportier and smaller than my ION which makes it easier to park next to the douche downstairs. And I'm really loving the hatchback; I loaded up the recycling and some stuff for Goodwill today and it was so nice to just pop it in the cargo area (It has 41 cu feet of cargo space--with the rear seats down--compared to 45 in the Ford Explorer). Plus it occurred to me today that if I have to evacuate for a hurricane again, I can stick Grace & her litter box in the very back and not have to keep her crated for the whole trip. I may look in to a pet barrier just in case!
I got the windows tinted yesterday, bought a sun screen for the windshield, and a bucket of car cleaning products (including a little hand held vacuum--it was $16!). I love that I can plug my iPod in (though I do sort of miss the stereo I'd JUST INSTALLED in my ION), and that it has cruise control--those are two features that I pretty much can't live without.
If this damn drought would just end, I'd love to take this thing out camping!
