Fun Times on Teh Internets

First things first: When you see this, post another Buffy quote in your LJ. Let's see how long it can go on.

The First Evil: "I'm not a demon, little girl. I am something that you can't even conceive. The first evil. Beyond sin. Beyond death. I am the thing that darkness fears. You'll never see me, but I am everywhere. Every being, every thought, every drop of hate."
Buffy: "All right, I get it, you're evil. Do we have to chat about it all day?"

The First Evil: "You have no idea what you're dealing with."
Buffy: "Let me guess.  Is it...evil?"

This is one of my favorites ever.  I <3 the mockery of evil.  And...well, everything else for that matter!

A "discussion" I've been having on the Caller.com message boards just for funsies.  Stupid Poster 714520, I've noticed as a skim the boards, has a habit of making up "facts" to suit his purposes--so I've started calling him out on them (I should point out that I don't know if it's a male or female, only that this poster is an idiot)

Stupid Poster 714520:
Did you happen to read the book
Audacity Of Hope? 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
Seems to ME we should take him for his WORD on Gov. Issues

My Response:
Not to wade in to the thick of things, but if you're going to quote Senator Obama you might as well use the whole thing:
"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

He does NOT say that he will support tthe Muslims come-what-may. He says that if things get crazy, a la the interment camps of WWII, he will stand up for Muslims. Did YOU happen to read the book Audacity of Hope?

Stupid Poster 714520:
"I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction." Don't you understand? We are talking political issues...Political winds ..What's the diff? WHO'S worried about putting all Muslim (So called) Americans in internment camps anyway? What a stupid idea...
But the so called "hard stares from their neighbors" are more than well deserved. How bout a few of them standing up for The U.S. and denouncing what their relatives over there are doing?

My response:
I  understand it perfectly well. In this quote he does not say that he will side with Muslims no matter what--please read it again if that's what you're getting out of it. He says that he trusts--and hopes--that people have learned from the mistakes of the past and will not judge the vast majority of American Muslims based upon a small sampling of radical Muslims. He says that if they do, and if people decide to take extraordinary steps to limit the freedoms and constitutional rights of Muslim Americans, that he will stand with them.

Many Muslims have stood up and decried the extremists & their tactics:
"These terrorist acts contradict the teaching of all religions and human and moral values." - Organization of Muslim Conference
"Bin Laden's Violence is a heresy against Islam" -Abdul Hakim Murad
"Attacking innocent people is not courageous, it is stupid and will be punished on the Day of Judgment. It's not courageous to attack innocent children, women and civilians. It is courageous to protect freedom, it is courageous to defend oneself and not to attack." - Sheikh Mohammed Sayyed al-Tantawi of Al-Azhar, the highest institution in Sunni Islam
"What these people stand for is completely against all the principles that Arab Muslims believe in." -King Abdullah II, of Jordan
"Islam respects the sacredness of life, and rejects any express statement or tacit insinuation that Muslims should harm innocent people" -Council on American-Islamic Relations, Canada

Stupid Poster 714520 ignores me (probably due to my Logic-Fu) & argues with another poster:
Ok lets play THAT game then... I got the quote from the net!
However. Do the Muslim (so called ) Americans and Obama Really, Really, REALLY Think in THIS day and age we would put them in a concentration camp? Oooooh! OR is he hyping them up for their votes, like every one of them will vote for him hands down anyway. Why is he trying to scare them? We are releasing their terrorist relatives by the hands full. The history of THIS country is nothing compared to having ones HEAD sawed off alive by their retarded, barbarian relatives like their history. Who are the Muslim so called Americans he is referring to?
The ones who danced in the isles when the planes hit the Twin Towers, or the ones who will not stand with us and condemn their relatives over there for what they are doing, or The ones who get the "hard stares" ? Wonder why THAT is? Not counting the NOT ONE Middle Eastern name on the passengers lists on any jet that crashed in 9/11

My Response:
You are painting all Muslims with the same brush.

Perhaps you missed the outpourings of grief, sympathy and outrage all over the Muslim world in the wake of 9/11, when Israelis and Palestinians mourned together and even Iran had a moment of silence in memorium.

You are making a mistake in believing that all Muslims are evil, murdering terrorists when that simply isn't the case. Thousands of American Muslims work hard, pay taxes, and even serve in the United States military--there are an estimated 2 million Muslims in the United states, which means that approximately 1,999,980 of them HAVEN'T participated in a terrorist attack.

Despite the hate-filled rhetoric you may have read, no American Muslims "danced" in celebration of 9/11; and as detailed in my previous post, plenty of Muslims have spoken up against violence, terrorism, and extremism. And you're also wrong about Middle Easterners on the passenger lists. There was a passenger with an Arabic name on American Airlines Flight 11 and one on American Airlines Flight 77 who were both ruled out as having any role in the attack and were simply victims like all the others.

This information is easily verifiable, but I doubt that something as trivial as facts would have any impact on your position.

(in another thread he is now mocking Christians who pray for hurricanes not to hit them--I'm not sure if he's anti-religion, a simple jackass, or just a troll)
