Whoo!

Well, I'm back from camping and it wasn't nearly as awful as I'd expected.  Goliad SP is lovely.  It's mostly historical, with the Presidio La Bahia, Mission Espiritu Santo, grave of Colonel Fannin & his troops (400 men who were slaughtered by General Santa Anna outside Presidio La Bahia), and the Angel of Goliad statue (a Mexican woman who helped 30 of Fannin's men escape the Presidio before the massacre).  It sits right on the San Antonio river, and is nice & lush.  Very sandy, but this IS South Texas ;)  Very warm (80s today) but this IS South Texas :) Made steaks and campfire potatoes for dinner last night (GOD I'd missed campfire potatoes!), and doughboys for breakfast...then I baked up the rest of the crescent rolls over the fire :)  Not quite 2 hours away makes this a great getaway spot from Corpus.

ausiewanab & I are doing the Expedition Everest 5K in September!  Note to self: go buy your knee brace!
ausiewanab, they have special rates (about $60/night) at All Star Sports for runners, and the added bonus of transportation to & from the event if we stay there. And it should be fairly slow in September, so we probably won't have to fight for busses (the drawback of the All Stars is that all 3 of them share a bus).  Shall I go ahead & reserve? :)

Stride & Ride went GREAT.  Our team (The Blue Monkeys Stride Back) raised about $1400 for MDA!  I'll probably post Goliad & Stride & Ride pics pretty soon and post a link here, if anyone wants to see me dressed up like Supergirl :)

ETA: Stride & Ride/Goliad pictures now up :)
