A message they will never receive

A friend of mine sent me the following message last night:

Ya so we got the office england style. Not sure I like it. Not very funny to me

I can't reply to her about it in person because I will come across as really pretentious and unapologetic, but here are the reasons you don't find the original 'Office' series funny:

A) Your not British.

B) Your not British.*

* I hold the opinion that Americans, for the most part, are pretty dense when it comes to film and some TV. They need to be hit over the head with jokes or the plot and the writers/producers/directors/etc more often cater to the masses instead of creating something nuanced, sophisticated, and great.

It doesn't help that up until a few years ago or so there has been utter crap on TV and the viewer need not do anything other than sit and scratch their asre while they watched. But now with shows such as '24' and 'Lost' you actually have to pay attention; that is a beautiful thing.

So no, friend of mine that hasn't gone to college and still has lots of maturing to do, I'm not surprised that you aren't finding one of BBC's finest very funny. Nor am I dissapointed in you. But I won't be able to explain this to you because you really wouldn't understand.

You ask me for recommendations for things to rent on Netflix... and I really don't know what to tell you when you ask for reasons outlined above. You just simply would not understand what I recommend to you. Although you liked 'Brick,' but I figured I couldn't lose on that one because of the drug aspect... and I knew you would find that tolerable. Not that my friend does drugs, but she is young enough to attracted by that culture as if it were some really shiny plaything a child loved and couldn't look away from.
