ESL Taiwan

Nov 12, 2007 01:09

So now that I have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, and that good ol' BA, I think I will be flying my ass out to Taiwan to scare up a gig as a teacher for a year. I hope to save enough money to take a good chunk out of my student loans and to soak up a different culture.

I am choosing Taiwan because of the opportunity to save money, the abundance of work for ESL teachers, and for the gay-friendly atmosphere. According to http://www.utopia-asia.com/, they even teach school children about sexual minorities and that queers are traditionally oppressed and deserve respect and equality...seriously...I think I would weep if that happened in my hometown. I'd probably buy a gun too, to keep myself safe during the ensuing hetero uprising.

SAD THING THO ABOUT THIS "SO-CALLED" UTOPIA-ASIA ISLAND:

weed is hard to come by and the law is pretty draconian about it. :O

Ever since you left that night
My heart is aching for you...

The halfway good news is that I don't think they test for MJ as a precondition for a work visa!!! IF ANYONE CAN CONFIRM OR DISPROVE THIS...

...I Love You

But I think this will be an amazing time in my life ganja or no and I am very excited about it. And if things get too square I can always abuse the noble betel nut.
