I am down in the armpit to visit family and the weather has been surprisingly nice - even more so than Davis (I don't know if I will ever be able to refer to that place as my alma mater - a less womb-like place I have yet to meet) which was amazing in and of itself. It is fantastic to see my aunt and uncle. They are lovely, slightly ridiculous people who really enjoy life and help others along the same path. My grandmother on the other hand, is just a strange duck.
There are two cats here - the dainty rather vacuous siamese and the ill-mannered, spoilt lap-cat that my grandmother is so attached to. If the tele weren't on all the time at only-slightly deafening volumes, it would be incredibly relaxing. Nothing quite relieves stress as watching a cat nap, or stare intently out the window.
Yesterday as I took a lovely afternoon nap my uncle kidnapped my car and apparently took it in to get the air conditioning fixed (those in Davis should be pleased). It was also discovered that my brakes and tires needed replacing and I was told that it was a miracle that with all the driving that I did this weekend I didn't have a tire explode along the way, which really just filled my heart with warm fuzzies. Shortly thereafter I got to feel quite guilty as my aunt and uncle refused to allow me to pay for everything that was done, even though I tried to insist - I am after all an actual adult now that I have a real job. But, no. They never had children themselves, and so I suppose that they have an excess of familial feeling or something as this is something pretty typical - which of course makes me wonder if my sister was more successful than I when she was down here getting new tires.
In other related news, I was very much relieved to hear after I had arrived that my uncle's scare was not as terrifying as first believed - apparently the medicine that he was being injected with to control his psoriasis caused bleeding in his stomach and stage one cancer in his colon, which was biopsied and hopefully totally removed on Monday. The doctor seemed pretty confident, so that is very good news, but it also means that my uncle has to return to treatment via small doses of direct sunlight, which is not quite as effective.
The excitement shall be continuing as at the end of this week I will be returning home with my grandmother, who will be staying with us until my sister's wedding. Joy.
