1. Saw the trailer for Little Britain on Star World. Which also means Star World is bringing in Season 2 of this British comedy. I can't wait for Sunday night again.
2. Watched Star World's run of Tru Calling, the pilot episode; Channel 5 aired it at an ungodly hour which I do not understand how they can air crap bimbotic series like A Simple Life. I liked it. And yes, it has their very first guest star, remember Callisto? The evil warrior nemesis of Lucy Lawless in Xena. She played a victim calling out for help to the main cast of Eliza Dushku(the dark anti-convention slayer from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Bring It On etc) for help when she was deceased. The story sort of works itself like Groundhog Day and she wakes up the next day sort of pre-empting every single day from her brother's gambling stint, her sister's coke snorting and several other titbits like baseball game results. There is life after Buffy after all. And I'm not talking about Angel.
3. R.E.M guest starred in Boston Public's Christmas episode. This is one of those episodes where most stories looked cliche but fits R.E.M in snugly when they played Losing My Religion acoustic in the eatery where the school celebrated Christmas. A boy traumatised by the witness of a dreadful road accident turning to helping others which in turn helped by Guber, Marilyn's abusive ex-husband returned all cleaned up, Drug addiction mum and enstranged daughter etc. One of the more subtle but memorable episodes.
4. I'm ahead of Channel 5 for Lost, all thanks to the AXN's Lost marathon, which is showing 5 episodes of Lost in one afternoon. Cool. I wait 7 days too but I get 5 episodes at 1 go.
5. Sin City is getting a 10 out of 10 for my movie of the year, yes, even when we haven't reach end of the 2005. I'm pretty sure this tops my list. Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, guest director Quentin Tarantino. Deadly directors' combination. Its what I call the cream of pulp fiction meets cult comics visionary team. With an art direction of black and white coupled with specific color tints in the small but important aspects of the movie, the violence, the gore, the sex... it was just perrrfecttt. Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Hartnett, Rutger Hauer, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and even Elijah Wood(our very LOTR hobbit) in a role with zero lines(note: Devon Aoki too)... what an amazing ensemble... everyone in the movie oozes with a dark diabolic style... fucking cool, fucking awesome.
6.
Mirrormask Clips Both clips of Neil Gaiman's Mirrormask are absolutely beautiful. Jim Hensen might not be around anymore but his talents and creations are legacies that still lingers and are weaved in by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman in a soon-to-be released Mirrormask. The movie's art direction is like a tribute to the likes of Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Andre Breton and the whole influence of other similar surrealists. Never heard a more haunting version of The Carpenter's "Close To You(They Long To Be)", this version takes the cake. Yum yum.
7. Is this the year for Jessica Alba or what? Just saw her in an overexposed role as Sue Storm in Fantastic 4 and then she appears centrestage again in Sin City as Nancy... It was a pity Dark Angel got canned by the producers. I thought she looked better with dark hair. Hope she is the next "IT" thing, give her an oscar-nomination deserving role, people!
8. Tori's new video is out...
Sweet The Sting Loved it when she does it naturally with the chorus vocals of soulful people in the background. Loved it when she closes her eyes. Loved it when her hand sare on different instrument at one time. Loved Tori to death. Shes featured in quicktime clips and I must say these days, her exposure has probably multiplied as compared to those days back in Atlantic.
9. This looks like a really interesting movie coming soon...
Must Love Dogs John Cusack... Diane Lane... Dermut Mulroney...DOGS! hmmm... 'Nuff said.
10. The only other movie I'm looking forward to, is C.S Lewis 7 book series 1st adaptation of Narnia Chronicles in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I've read all 7 books since I was in secondary school and was captivated by the world of Narnia, especially the character of Aslan, the lion. And funny thing is I only found out very much recently that Aslan's character is an literary allegory of God or Jesus Christ in the bible, never really noticed the asociation till someone pointed it out to me! From how he breathed life into Narnia like God did in Genesis to how he suffered the ultimate betrayal by a subject like Jesus with Judas. Everything was so amazing that C.S. Lewis weaved his fiction with the whole religion thing...
