Meme Day 14 & 15: or, an exceptional Tuesday.

Sep 28, 2010 16:30

Apparently my version of this meme, wherever I found it, is borked as it gave me the same thing twice where it should not have. So here is a redo of day 14. And day 15, before I go out and make cookies. Yes.

My day has been awesome so far. I have a ride to the airport on Friday and someone to hang out with. I fit into all of my old pants, INCLUDING my skinny jeans (granted some are still really tight, but they're put-on-able!). One of my dream jobs is a REAL JOB. I want to apply to it but really shouldn't right now, but that it exists is awesome. (Editing roleplaying books! And there are DENTAL BENEFITS EVEN.) Also I found a fall jacket in my stored clothes so I don't have to buy one.

Seriously go Tuesday. I mean okay, I have not done any work on my conference paper (er...yeah) but I am a) not the only one behind on that, we're grad students, for crying out loud and b) having a date tonight and looking forward to it so there. Also it rained today and I love rain.

14: Your education

I went to Catholic school as a child. I transferred from one to another in the middle of Grade 1, and it took me a while to make friends, plus the second one was rougher (it was in a "bad" part of town). I was a nerd and got put in enrichment and had anger problems and generally failed at being a social being. My marks were astronomical until my parents separated (I was 10) and then they were mediocre because I just didn't do my homework.

For middle school (7 - 8) I transferred to a 7 - 12 Catholic uniform school. There I made four best friends who lasted me from then through high school, and we found an ever-expanding group to hang out with, so I actually got a pseudo-normal teenage socialization experience (though we were all geeks, so it was through DDR/roleplaying games/talking about comics/etc.). Our high school was pretty badass because a) our music teacher rocked, and ran instrumental music, strings, and guitar classes and several bands, all of which I was in, and b) our school had lots of eclectic classes, so I got to take stuff like Classical Civilizations and Topics in Literature.

For university I came to the University of Windsor, where I originally enrolled in English Literature and Creative Writing, and switched in my second semester to that plus Classics. I received an Honours BA with distinction in June 2009. Most of my friends I've retained from undergrad are from an English student club (but most of them aren't/weren't English students, ha) and from Classics, which is a pretty tight-knit department with only three permanent profs. I also keep in touch with some kids from Creative Writing; in our school the classes for it are year-long, very small portfolio-entry classes, so very few people graduate with it and by the time you get to the end, you know people pretty well.

For my Master's degree I'm at the same university, same deal (English Lit & CW) and I'm in my final year now, writing my thesis and finishing up my coursework. This semester I have a directed reading about the short story, next semester I'll either be in postmodern long poetry or the body in modern drama (I'd rather take the latter but my thesis advisor wants me in the former). I don't know if they give distinctions for MAs but I'll tell you in June.

I'm considering an additional MA in Pop Culture at Brock (in St. Catherine's) as I love love love academic writing in that field. It'd just be basically so I could do that exclusively and guilt-free for a year and continue to get paid to go to school because good jobs are hard to find, guys.

15: Your dreams

1. Get married to someone fantastic that I love madly and get a charming little house with a cat. (No, really, I'm that bad.)
2. Write freelance, edit professionally. Ideally in an awesome field I'd be interested in (and D&D book editors actually make good money!).
3. Be in a band again.
4. Er, the rest is just a lot of little things, mostly having to do with being as involved in making and supporting art as possible. :) Also: CORSETS.

Can you tell today is exciting? It is. New Glee comes out tonight, too.

Happy Tuesday, everyone.
