Homosexual attraction: A disordered desire for love

Why is homosexuality a sin?

First, homosexuality is not a sin. The term “homosexuality” refers to the condition of being sexually attracted to members of one’s own gender. An attraction, even a same-sex attraction, is not sinful; it is simply a description of what is. Every one of us struggles ( Read more... )

I was raised with this crap, any wonder I'm fucked up? so_zanie April 24 2009, 23:51:03 UTC
Catholic theology views sexuality in almost any form as, at the very least, problematic. Got to do, as I understand it (from one perspective at least), with Paul and his homoerotic/homophobic issues, and the infusion, in the early Church, of a wrongheaded eastern mysticism that denies the body, at least in part. Or finds it icky. Or something.

If you are too old to reproduce, gay, sterile, infertile, or child free by choice, then you should not be having sex. At all. Ever. I mean, why would you want to, right? If you aren't going to spew forth progeny, then there's no fucking point to fucking.

Yes, there really are Catholics who believe that and who believe that it's God's will to only use sexuality for procreation, that couples should cease being sexual past the age of reproduction and instead seek what they often call "agape" love instead. If you really want to give yourself an aneurysm, poke around on the Opus Dei website--they kind of exemplify this viewpoint.

OK. I guess the REAL question is--why are you reading this stuff? You know it's gonna trip more buttons than you thought you had, that it's gonna get inside you and turn you into a raging Laura.

If it's cathartic, then OK, I guess. Otherwise? Why, oh why do you subject yourself to it?

I didn't mean to read it. I mean, I didn't go and seek it out intentionally. It was at the end of one of my community link following endeavors. Then once I started, it was like a freaking train wreck, and I couldn't look away.

And yeah, it made me really damned mad. However, that's not really what I'm mad about either, so it gave me something to shout about without shouting about why I'm really pissed off. Uh huh. Makes perfect sense to me. Just go with it here! ;)
