They were friends; they had always been friends. And she treasured that friendship; she nurtured that friendship to try to make it grow. The friendship as the base would make it all the more wonderful. Friendship would give the relationship a solid ground to build on, and land on if it all falls apart.
His words could be so hurtful, but she knew he didn’t mean them to hurt. He was so ignorant and innocent to her true feelings.
The Yule Ball had changed nothing, not really. She knew Harry knew, but that was the wrong one. Sure, Harry was a great guy, but he was more her brother and friend than anything else. She couldn’t see him as more than a friend; he was her best friends. Sometimes she felt he knew she could never see him anything more and was happy for it. They would be best of friends, but lovers never.
But the one she wanted. The one she loved, seemed oblivious of her feelings and true intentions. She could never open her mouth and just tell him. The truth was so far out of reach for her. She saw him everyday, as a friend, and saw his smiles, laughs, and joy. But not love. She would never have his heart, only his friend.
But seeing him kiss another girl hurt more than his words. It was so unintentional... it was so innocent. She knew she should force a smile on her face when she greeted him next. She should just forget her hurt and jealousy, but she couldn’t. She didn’t know how to, actually. All she knew, at this moment in time, was he was in that empty classroom with her roommate. Even though, it was her roommate she felt so sense of betrayal from the girl or even that he was kissing her. The only betrayal she felt was from herself. She betrayed her true feelings by not telling him.
How can she feel betrayed when he doesn’t know she loves him to begin with?
The truth, she knew, wouldn’t set her free; it would just make her loose a good friend.
