Molly was sleeping peacefully. Matt was standing at the door, looking down at her calm face as she slept. There were no nightmares plaguing her tonight, and Matt felt grateful to her. She had been a breath of fresh air into his life after he divorced his cheating ex-wife. She and Matt had moved into Mohinder's apartment in New York.

She turned in her sleep and Matt sucked in a breath and waited to see what was causing her distress. A moment later, she was calm once again. Sighing with relief, Matt stepped back from the door and shut it silently. Molly wasn't aware that Matt came and checked in on her every night. She probably would be annoyed, like any child, if she knew.

After he checked on Molly, he went to the kitchen for something to eat. With the light off, he went to the kitchen and got some orange juice and an apple. While he was hungry, he didn't want to cook anything for fear of being discourteous and waking Molly or Mohinder up.

Sitting down at the small table, he ate his apple. Mohinder flipped on the light as he was walking into the room, and Matt jumped.

"Oh, Matt it's you!" Mohinder said, relief in his voice. "I heard noises… I was just checking on what it was."

"Sorry," Matt said quietly, "I was just grabbing a midnight snack after I looked in on Molly."

Mohinder fell silent for a moment. "I do that too."

"What?" Matt asked, perplexed.

"Check in on her. Making sure she's okay."

"Oh. Right." Matt took a loud bite of his apple instead of saying anything else. They had lived together for a few months now. It was a safe place for Molly with both of them there to protect her, but it was sometimes a strange place for the men to be. They were two grown men watching over a little girl that wasn't either of theirs. They were a makeshift family. Eating his apple in silence, Mohinder sat down at the table. Matt looked at him. "Yes?" he asked after he swallowed.

"Do you think she's happy here?" Mohinder asked abruptly.

"Molly? Yes, she's happy here."

"Sometimes I don't know."

"It's better for her here than in the damned Company."

Mohinder nodded. "That's true, but…"

"Her parents were murdered, Mohinder. She has no where else to go. Do you want… Do you want us to leave?" Matt wasn't sure where Mohinder's words were going, but he felt a stranger sadness and anger that Mohinder might want them to leave now. It wasn't like Mohinder anyway. He had welcomed to pair into his apartment happily, declaring that she needed both of them to be truly safe. Now he wasn't sure? He tried hard never to use his telepathy on Molly or Mohinder. He had learned to control it, and now he found himself wanting to search Mohinder's mind to see if he was welcome here any longer.

"No!" Mohinder exclaimed, looking almost angry. "Of course I don't want either of you to leave! This is Molly's home."

His voice dropping down to a whisper, Matt asked, "Do you want me to leave only? I can leave… I'll see stop by to see Molly and-"

"No," the other man said, looking into Matt's eyes. "No. You belong here as much as she does."

Matt didn't say anything. He slowly and quietly ate his apple, the silence overwhelming. He had to resist the urge to look into Mohinder's mind to find out what this new wave of questioning and uncertainty stemmed from.

"Unless…" Mohinder started slowly, "You want to leave."

"I don't want to leave," Matt replied without a moment's pause. He truly didn't want to leave. Ever since Janice had revealed that the baby wasn't his, he didn't feel like he belonged anywhere until he got here with - with both of them.

Silence enveloped the pair once again. Both listened intently for a noise from Molly's room signaling another nightmare, but thankfully nothing came. Throwing his core into the trash, Matt stood up. "I’m going to bed." He walked by Mohinder and the other man's hand grabbed his arm, stopping him in his tracks. He turned to Mohinder.

"I don't want either of you to go anywhere."

Slowly, with great hesitance, Mohinder pulled Matt down to him. After a brief moment, their lips met in a strange kiss. Never had Matt thought they would be doing this - that they would kiss. They were thrown together because of the little girl in the bedroom, but now they were drawn to each other in other ways. Strange ways. Ways he wasn't sure he could comprehend.

That night was the beginning of something that Matt couldn't explain. Not only did he still check on Molly every night, he found himself in the kitchen when Mohinder. They didn't always kiss, but something about the tone their voices took had changed. They were no longer just roommates looking after Molly; they were something that wasn't defined or named. Every night, Matt always craved those conversations, those moments, those stolen kisses and touches that passed between him and Mohinder in the dead of night. And he didn't even have to look into Mohinder's mind to know that he craved those times either and that he was just as weary and confused as Matt was of the turn of things.
