MEH!!!
for those of you who actually read my myspace and livejournal, yes, a repeat. but since i gave in and let this rant out, i figured might as well post it both places, maybe it'll spark a conversation...though im probably preaching to the choir on here....
Every day I drive by signs with a "family" - a little man, woman, and two kids. Who the FUCK decided that THAT makes a "family" and NOTHING else is?! I'm sick of all of this "protect families" shit. There are SO many different types of families.
As is stands, it seems to me that the word "Marriage" is being used to describe two different things. One is a spiritual promise, one is a legal promise. The first is a church/religious/faith thing that is up to each of us and cannot and should not have anything to do with the state. So there should never be a law that can define such a thing. The STATE definition therefore can only be to define what makes a LEGAL marriage. So what I want to know from those who are voting for Prop 8 is what harm comes to you by the state allowing any two people who love each other to become legally married in the eyes of the state? How does that do you any harm? What right do you or anyone else have to dictate what makes a family? And what message are we sending to all of those kids who DON'T come from traditional families? Wake up people. What happened to land of the free here? It scares me that I live in a world where it would even be considered okay for the GOVERNMENT to DICTATE who is allowed to love who. Oh wait, they did that. Before the civil rights act. Oh yeah, remember, that thing that says we're all equal, and should be allowed the same civil rights. Oh right. That.
AND AND I just watched this video of the couple, with the book about the two kings. Protect our children they say. I want to show people like that the movie "Hairspray" just to see what they say. In the 60s people wanted their children "protected" from the "blacks". They're PEOPLE!!!
AND! (sorry, i just had to open my mouth) What the fuck is this "they shouldn't be taught about homosexuality until sex ed in 5th adn 6th grade" shit. So...they can be taught about mommies and daddies and marriage of that kind when they're 2....but if it's two men, it's naughty and they have to wait until their in sex ed?! WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE, it's not all about sex. It's about love. These people LOVE each other! LOVE! And the state wants to say that it's not okay...and the proponents of this law belittle these loving, amazing relationships as something that should be a part of a SEX ED curriculum?! That's just...ugh, revolting! :(
