So, I have a nice little story....
The cops came to the house the other day because apparently there was a fight right outside our place. It was Saturday night and there was a party (obviously). Anyway, one of the people involved came back into our place to hide from the cop - he had already talked to the cop and entered the house to get another person that was involved. However, the kid came inside and locked the door. The cop was stranded outside and eventually gave up and left.
This all happened around 3:30am Sunday morning. At that time I was in my room sleeping (or trying to sleep anyway) because 1) it was late and I was tired and 2) I had to wake up early to go to church with Dad. I heard nothing of the cop. I had no knowledge of this event until late Monday or Tuesday night. Well, Wednesday night the cop came back to our place and asked us questions. The end result is a $180 ticket for noise violation given to EACH of us. Ben, one of my roommates, was not here when the cop came Wednesday night and therefore did not receive a ticket. He was, however, here for the party.
Now then, my problem is that I have a ticket in my name because of the actions of my roommates. The fight that took place did not involve any of my roommates, BUT the party itself created that environment. I have nothing to do with the parties that go on here anymore. I am usually in my room minding my own business. All the people that come over for parties are not my friends, and I do not invite them. And every party there are usually people that nobody knows that come. Even though this is my house, too, I don't feel responsible for what goes on during the parties. And on top of that, in this case I was sleeping.
Most of my roommates feel that I should not have to pay. They are obviously unhappy about the situation and understandably so. Ben is the only one who feels that I should have to pay, even though I was not involved with the party. I feel I should not have to pay since I did not invite any of the people over, nor did I provide the alcohol (Ben actually was saying the other day how much he made one time from a "kegger." I don't see why he couldn't use that money to help put towards the ticket). The only thing I'm guilty of is living here.
Should I have to pay a stupid ticket for sleeping? Am I crazy?
