custom prompt-table: hipster!AU Dean/Cas.
So. To explain what in the name of all things zombified and demonic is going on here: I started writing an AU Dean/Cas fic for big_bigbang, and it had the premise that Dean and Cas were graduate students, working as Professor Ellen's TAs and battling massive amounts of UST and feelings for each other. …Because that's pretty much just what happens whenever I leave Dean and Castiel anywhere near each other. Also, this AU's Cas is a total fucking hipster.
We're talking, like… skinny jeans, plaid shirts, and Buddy Holly glasses that he doesn't need. "I was into everything before it was cool." "I have a copy of that album on vinyl because it's more real and pure." "Ugh, why do humans even need to breathe? It's so mainstream, I hate it." "I only read the Bible in its original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. It's fake to do anything else." "True love is a lie; the only honest way to live in the world is like a libertine." Hides his secret addiction to Disney princess movies because he has so-called street cred to maintain TOTAL FUCKING HIPSTER.
…Naturally, this is mostly just one of many, many layers to him, because I can't make anything simple. And, keeping with how I can't make anything simple, my attempts to figure out hipster!Cas's backstory and why he acts like such a jerk led to putting together some… giant, complicated, Capital-I Issues-laden 'verse that didn't lend itself well to plotting, outside of the immaculately outlined Dean/Cas part. Which has been driving me up a wall to try and write as one thing. And leaving me feeling like I could either try and fit in everything, but go nuts in the process, or only focus on the Dean/Cas part and feel dissatisfied with the finished product because I WANT ALL THE THINGS (not to mention the interconnectedness of ALL THE THINGS).
…So I decided to just Kobayashi Maru this shit and do what I'm doing with office!verse and Alpha Omega!verse, namely: make myself a prompt table and write stuff up in installments / as a 'verse of connected shorter pieces, rather than as one giant project.
