100_situations (Dean/Castiel).
…apparently, I've had this prompt table kicking around for a while. And I'm reposting it… mostly because temporalranger is getting on my ass about finishing things (ILU, BB) and one of the plot-tribbles she agreed to sponsor is a Dean/Cas AU that's been dubbed AO!verse.
It's been so dubbed because the premise of it is as such: it's a university AU… WITH SUPERPOWERS.
So. …Cas is a member of the Alpha Omega fraternity [my big, nerdy affection for extraneous Biblical references. LET ME SHOW YOU IT], which is basically the future superheroes of America frat. Thing is, he doesn't WANT to be a superhero. Especially not after Lucifer and Michael, two of the best-known heroes in their generation, had a big explosion and became mortal enemies a la Professor X and Magneto.
After all of that nonsense happens, Cas really, really doesn't want to be a superhero. He'd rather, like, go to graduate school, and fall in love, and get married, get a PhD, and settle down somewhere suburban with his husband and a puppy and maybe some kids, someday. And write scholarly papers about seventeenth-century poetry. And read the hypothetical children excerpts of Paradise Lost before bed. …which is all great, but he thinks he HAS to be a superhero.
Also, Lilith (Lucifer's Emma Frost/Mystique mash-up, in this analogy) is SCARY. She doesn't mean to be, but she's sort of overzealous with the whole MUTANT AND PROUD thing… and the feminism thing… and EVERYTHING. …and without meaning to, she and Lucifer scared Cas so far into the closet that he's having tea with Mister Tumnus and the Beavers. …this is Anna. She is Cas's BFF since childhood and currently his big, gay beard (even though she's really dating Ruby).
And Dean… well. Dean's just some guy, you know? Just some guy who's totally crushing on the mysterious, bed-headed, blue-eyed guy in his literature class. …Just some guy who has a bit of a Hero Complex and a saving people thing. …Just some guy who would really, really like to make Cas happy, instead of so depressed and screwed in the head that he SENT HIMSELF to a "pray the gay away" camp that's… sort of in the vein of True Directions from But I'm A Cheerleader… just. Like, it is every bit as useless as True Directions, but the actual psychological effects of going to one of said places (and continuing to see Zachariah, a psychiatrist who advocates reparative therapy).
…oh, and Cas's parents and his older brother (Barachiel / the Cupid that canon!Dean punched in the face)? TOTALLY FINE WITH CAS BEING GAY. THEY NEVER ACTUALLY GAVE HIM ANY INDICATION THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE. Barachiel even knows and has spent the past few years periodically cuddling Cas and petting his hair and going, "I just want you to love you as much as I do, little brother. :(" AND CAS GOT THEM TO PAY FOR HIS STINT AT SUMMER CAMP BY TELLING THEM THAT IT WAS A FRATERNITY BONDING TRIP WITH GABRIEL, BALTHAZAR, AND URIEL (who are dicks, generally, but they usually have good intentions and tend to come around, in the end).
…and it helps that, at the Alpha Omega Halloween Costume Party And Binge-Drinking Extravaganza, they feed Cas jello shots (while he is dressed in skin-tight black hot pants, a mesh shirt, and sparkly fake angel wings due to losing a bet) and tequila, and then throw him at a similarly intoxicated Dean.
……now, by "helps," I mean that Dean and Cas have fun together, and the sex is awesome, and they would've eventually consented without being totally shit-faced… but, as Cas is running out the door to go bother Zachariah and be all I SLIPPED UP AND HAD SEX WITH A GUY WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO I'M BACK-SLIDING AND SPIRALING, SPIRALING, SPIRALING… he doesn't want to be RUDE or anything, so he says that… sure… he and Dean can see each other again sometime… yeah… cool… Dean can please get his number from Balthazar because Cas is SUPER LATE FOR SOMETHING IMPORTANT.
which leads to Dean and Cas spending more time together… which leads to Dean and Cas having ~SPARKS FLY~… which leads to Cas being all ASKFRH NO NO NO I'M NOT GAY, I'M NOT GAY, THIS ISN'T HAPPENING… which leads to Dean figuring out that his not-boyfriend has some issues and is seriously in need of help… which EVENTUALLY, WAY DOWN THE LINE, leads to marriage and graduate school and puppies and stuff like that. …and during all of that, Gabriel, Balthazar, and Uriel really don't do too much to facilitate things unless there's something in it for them, BUT HEY THEY MADE THE "ONE-NIGHT STAND" THAT STARTED EVERYTHING HAPPEN, THAT'S TOTALLY WORTH ALL THE BROWNIE POINTS RIGHT? :D
Meanwhile, Sam has a romantic comedy love-triangle with Jessica and Andy. Andy is his BFF and has a crush on him, but Sam has a crush on Jessica… who thinks that he and Andy are pledges in one of the campus frats, when actually, they're in their last year of high school and taking advanced-placement classes for college credit through a university outreach program. SHENANIGANS ENSUE… and probably a threesome, because fuck it, why not.
…and it's getting a prompt table because… I keep staring at it, going, "……have a plot. Please? PLEASE have a plot? Some… vague semblance of an outline that is more structured and detailed than what we have now, maybe? …PLEASE? D:"
And AO!verse's response to that is pretty much always, "LOL NO :D :D :D."
…so. it's going to be a series of interconnected one-shot. Like the upcoming shenanigans of office!verse ("Dean is a sexy but emotionally stunted secretary; Cas is his sexy but Type-A, super-demanding boss; GUESS WHAT HAPPENS. …no, seriously. guess. bet you can't guess it. …yeah, no, you totally can. Sex happens"), and "Son of A Preacherman," which, erm. …I have several more installments of it started. I should just, like. finish them or something. …oops.
