Today was the most wonderful day off I've yet to have this summer. Everything just worked itself out perfectly timing- and budget-wise. I did a lot of nature-y things which make me feel like a better person... I went to Waller Mill Park with Brian and off to see 'An Inconvenient Truth' with the gang. GO SEE IT. OR... ELSE!
It really puts everything into perspective and explains a lot at an elementary level that needed to be explained to really understand this whole thing. I feel like I learned a lot (that, granted, I probably should have known by now) without feeling like I was being babied. Yes, a lot of it I did already know, but still. It was just a very lovely movie and makes me want to go out and change the world even more.
The movie also reminded me that I should never, never, ever give up on 'being the change I wish to see in the world.' (someone said that once... was it Ghandi?) It makes me sad when people just dispair like Al Gore said in the movie. It's so pointless to just sit on our hands. It doesn't mean we have to feel guilty for taking advantage of nature... but we should only do it to an extent and should really stop abusing it.
These lyrics remind me of a lot of people, but one in particular. I almost wish that they read this so that they could understand what it was I was always harping on at them about. Life is more than the things we own... it is the place we live and the people who share that place with us. If we lose either of those things, what is the point? I still love them, but I can't help but shake my head every time that I look back on the situation... So here's to you.
