So! I imagine there's a lot of Sam vs. Dean going around in fandom right now, or so I hear. Somehow I have managed to avoid all of it on my various social media outlets

OH MAN yeah, the moment where Dean says the line about Benny never letting him down, and you can tell he realizes once he says it how it's going to come across to Sam, and how he tries to walk it back after Sam's response but it's too late. And Sam just gives up any pretense of trying to listen to Dean after that, which isn't really fair either, but geez. Ouch.
I think eventually they can get some perspective on their relationship. Not so much right now, lol.
The scene with Dean and Benny facing each other was pretty great. I do think Dean went in looking for the truth rather than what he wanted to be true, regardless of what Sam thinks about it. I don't know if Dean would be able to kill Benny himself; but I do think that if Benny was eating people, he wouldn't have stopped Sam from taking care of the problem, either. But Benny wasn't eating anyone, and in the past they've both agreed to let monsters go who aren't harming humans, so Dean's frustration about why Sam won't listen to him about Benny is understandable.
YES the through-line back to season 1 is very strong. Everything that's happened to them has contributed to where they're both at this season, cumulatively, and I love it. It's always been this show's great strength and it's paying off this season.
the afact that most of the time people aren't bad or wrong, they are just fallible and human.
