but I think it's just Dean and Cas have changed so much, and so how can Dean&Cas stay the same? I'm reminded of what you said about how an OTP itself becomes a character, so like sometimes Sam&Dean or Dean&Cas feel different from what they WERE, but if you just focus on Dean, Sam, and Cas as three discrete entities, WHICH THEY ARE, it actually makes all the sense in the world.

SAMNDEAN are not a unit, they are not a character, their relationship is made up of two people who have had a whole lot of shit happen to them and a whole lot of unresolved stuff, and so yeah.

I can't be too invested in it because I'M TOO INVESTED IN WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, and I odn't even have the time and energy to worry about things that far. I'M SURE I WILL CRY ABOUT WHATEVER WILL COME EVENTUALLY.YEAH, that's basically where I am all the time with this series, I try not to think too far ahead, I'm too busy wrapped up in the present anyway, and often the series does something I'm not expecting in a million years anyway (the end of season 6, 6.19-6.21, never in a million years would I have predicted that

oh man good call about streamlined heaven and streamlined hell. i mean, i'm sure the parallels are at some point deliberate in at least portraying them both as bureaucracies, there's a reason the angels have always been in business suits. That's a deliberate choice, you know? maybe naomi just represents a different flavor of bureaucracy, the kind that talks about growing the synergy or whatever instead of just saying you're laying off people.
