fic: contusio varians, 3 -- SPN

This one sort of took off! I had about 1,000 words in my unending doc of bits of the year at the Braeden's, and when I went to polish off the ending somehow it ran away from me and doubled in size.

contusio varians: a bruise which waxes and wanes according to an unknown cycle

“I know about iron and silver and salt and lamb’s blood, but what do you repel with socks?”

CHRIST LISA YOU ARE THE MOST PRECIOUS.

“I know that,” he says, a little peevish, but at least there’s something there. “It wasn’t a very funny joke.”

I love this so much, so so much. You can see where they start to get comfortable with each other, as weird and different as the situation is for the both of them. I love seeing Lisa navigate the different facets of her life in this, too.

Hey, this is nifty. Very nice, very vivid, quiet portrait of the realities inherent in this kind of situation. Very much two lives colliding, that have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. Plus, I love anything to do with either Winchester handling their own laundry issues--such a nice way of underlining their self-sufficiency without being over-the-top about it.

Lovely work. Would read again.

Oh, excellent moment of the start of that year! I can feel Lisa watching Dean as though I was doing it myself!

You are on a roll! Keep going!

Aw thanks! I'm trying not to think too hard about it so I can dodge writer's block.

What I really love in this is this constant thrum of The Dean, especially with that juxtaposition of her thinking about why he came to her, about how he thought of her when he thought of being happy. It's this stark contrast of what they believe each other to be and what they actually are, the images and the ideals they formed in their brief meetings and the reality, what they had and have. HE'S NOT THE MAN SHE MET IN A SEEDY BAR TEN YEARS AGO. They are such real people here, Dean's not a hero and everything epic about him is just stripped away to the bones of what Lisa remembers, and should she try to heal him, can she, can anyone, is that even what he wants? This is all just...it's the craters left behind after the explosion. The apocalypse, yeah, but this horrific little even that leaves normal women speaking in hushed, frightened voices, too. I AM BABBLING. But there are so many feelings here, god, I can't even begin ( ... )

THANK YOU SO MUCH I am so happy you like this, your comment made my entire morning brighter. That's such a good way of putting Dean: everything epic stripped away.

It's not canon as far as I remember! It just worked for me, fit somehow. SO HAPPY IT WORKS.

god, I love them so.
