cowboys and aliens

Huh. Very weird. Moderately enjoyable summer cotton candy action flick that would have risen to a higher level had the dialog not been surprisingly flat, wooden, and cliche. IDGI really, the plotting was decent, but I can't remember a single bit of dialog that was remotely memorable. With that number of screenwriters, you'd think someone could have pulled off a line or two of competent dialog, but no.

THIS IS THE IMPORTANCE OF DIALOG, PEOPLE.

I would have also liked to see just a bit more of the western in the alien invasion flick. I'm not sure how to articulate that. Basically, the elements were all there for a neat, surprising, interesting kind of flick, but the awful dialog dragged it down about ten notches. It had other issues too, but the biggest one was the words people were made to utter. The concept was creative, though, and I did like parts of the movie, so I don't want to give the impression it's unwatchable, because that's far from true. There's just a lot of missed potential.

Olivia Wilde was pretty awesome and got to be the movie's ultimate hero, so that part was cool. It's just that the dialog in this made the dialog in Tron 2 seem epic and oscar worthy.

Naturally we came back and watched SPN's "Frontierland." Which, btw, has competent dialog that is occasionally witty and amusing.

I only get disappointed with movies that show potential to be interesting, you know? And this one had so much going for it, and you could see the actors struggling against the crappy words coming out of their mouths. I really don't understand how that happens.
