holy crap
shark week is kicking my ass this month.
For the first time in awhile I'm trying to read an actual fiction book (Mysterious Skin) and like, wow, the prose in this one is stilted. There are some good passages, but it's just so awkward. I think I'm not cut out for 1st person POV, and this book is from multiple 1st person POVs, but mostly it's just that the prose is... yeah. Stilted. Really really stiff. And maybe there's a reason for that in this particular book, I dunno if the author has written anything else and if so if his other work is this awkward. In some ways given the subject matter it works but I find the actual prose harder to read than the content.
