Fic: Or where you go, or where you’ve been -- SPN

May 29, 2010 11:02

So I've been having this long stretch of writer's block, and I've also been pecking at this fic for months, and I'm just gonna post it unbeta'ed because I fear otherwise nothing will ever see the light of day. EVER AGAIN. Writing brings out my emo side, what can I say.

It's taking me forever to write anything fictional in this fandom. Five months in ( Read more... )

Sam nods, just a jerk of his chin, and maybe he's finally hearing what Dean's trying to tell him. I didn't keep her from you. Not on purpose.

Every time, every time I just get there and lose it. The season one voices in this, when Dean's pretty sure this is the hardest thing anyone in their family will ask them to do, and just. Knowing what's coming down the pike. Ow Ow ow ow ow.

Also, how observant Dean is, without helping it, how he's got the lay of the land of his family, exhausted and familiar with it all at once:

Sam's like a fucking terrier with this stuff. Nosing around, sinking his teeth in. Shaking everything to pieces and not even knowing why half the time. Like it's reflex.

thank you! And thanks for handholding while I wrote this. And that stupid fucking song, which breaks my heart every time I listen to it.

This was wonderful. The whole story is sharp, like claws digging into your skin. Sad, too, for us, for them. There are some wonderful sentences you have that help convey the whole meaning of the story.

...Dean's bored with sitting in the passenger seat waiting for his heart to stop... and ...motels that cling to state highways like barnacles.... Just wonderful.

Really, the whole thing was a perfect balance of angst and brotherly moments.

Thank you for sharing.

I like how this conversation is spanned over a couple of episodes and how Dean reacts to it based on those episodes. Nicely done. I like the mood this story sets.

Even if I'm not into this show, I really like this fic. First, it's yours, and whatever you write is always good (whether I "agree" with it or know anything about it or not -g-). Second, it just evokes these vivid images in my head.

Sparrows had pecked at the crumbs at the rest stop where he and Sam had snagged a picnic table under a big oak.

And as a result they both carry Texas in their voices like bedrock underneath everywhere else.

Etc, etc. So. Much. Wonderful. Imagery.

"I don't remember," he insists, and it's not a lie, not really, because he doesn't know what he remembers half the time. Sometimes he only knows the story the way his father tells it. And sometimes he catches it out of the corner of his eye. Flames twined in her hair.

And as always, you say so much with only a handful of words.

You make me want to watch this show. But I'm so far behind, with others waiting on my DVR.

ohhhh, thanks!

and you should totally watch it! So much good characterization in this show, it's beyond words.

The first season is a little slow to get started, though I do love it. By the last third of the first season, though, they've found their groove.

That's totally why I watch it, and not for the pretty boys and the manpain.

More random thoughts after catching up on the three seasons: Bobby is awesome! Sam can be a bit of a brat! Dean is so sweet when he's happy! Ellen is awesome too! Bobby is kinda right about the pair of them being eejits! :-)

This was wonderful. Definitely questions which I would have liked show to answer at some point - but then Kripke has always been good at giving us just enough unanswered or unmined material for us to play with!

A lovely trip back to s1 - and I love how you've captured the brothers in this.
Hope to see lots more now that you've got your foot in the door...
