An internet friend of my husband's was desperately trying to get her three-year-old to watch something besides Cars a few weeks back and finally convinced him to give Toy Story a try. Finding Nemo was an obvious no-go because of the violent beginning that kills off Nemo's mother, and, re: Monsters Inc., "he hasn't come up with the idea of monsters under the bed or in the closet yet, so HELL NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO VOLUNTEER THIS INFORMATION"-- but Toy Story seemed pretty safe. Suddenly, after ten minutes, the movie was rejected as too scary. Husband and I were both baffled and demanded an explanation; we couldn't think of anything that was scary in the first ten minutes. Answer: apparently the goofy dingbat dinosaur was terrifying to the child. Go figure. I still don't understand kids.
