Occam's Razor 3: The Last Enemy

This is forunovis_lj, who remembered it from way back when we were both in a HL writer's group.  The writer's group was a great idea, but I ended up dropping out - I got sick, and couldn't keep up. It's my first HL fic ever, and though there are problems, I still like it.

I edited it a bit here and there but didn't do anything major. I ( Read more... )

Very nice, I adore the confrontation and Joe's reaction to it. That line - “Mock the devil and he shall flee from thee,” Adam answered, “So off I go.” So fitting and perfect.
Thank you for shariing.

That was wonderfully moving. I feel all their pain, maybe especially Joe's. He doesn't know what's happening and no one is likely to enlighten him. The way he mixes his friends with his work, his world must feel like it's inexplicably tilted just now.

And Methos survives. And Duncan tries to come to terms with it all. Lovely moody piece. Thank you.

Yes, I always wanted to see the impact of all of this on Joe. Torn between two friends, one of which he doesn't know if he knows anymore...

Thanks for reading!

“Speak of the devil,” he managed.

The newcomer nodded, thin face neutral in the club’s evening half-light.

“Am I?”

This was...admirable. So this is what happened, this cold and very real play of masks and half-truths. The Last Enemy indeed.

Thank you.

Laughs, blushes and says, yeah, I know exactly what you mean!

Really did think this a superb piece of writing.

Thank you! I'm so pleased to see this again!
I went crazy looking for it last year: I'd made a list of Highlander stories that dealt with food and then I started on a list of stories that took place in bars (right before I made the challenge). This was uppermost in my mind, but I couldn't find your email addy or the list it was posted on.

I like its shadows; I like the style. I love the description of Methos as an Expressionist print.

Yea! I'm glad you liked it, that it lived up to what you remembered. I don't know if it was ever posted anywhere but the writer's list, so that's why you couldn't find it. And I don't know what it was originally titled. Anyhow, I'm so happy you enjoyed it, it's high praise coming from you!

Painful, but I just love the almost palpable atmosphere you've created. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck raising in anticipation! Thanks.
