Character information

Name Cloud Strife.
Fandom Final Fantasy VII.
Age 21.
Gender Male.

Appearance
There are many things that Cloud inherited from his mother, but the most obvious is his eyes; striking, bright, blue eyes that look identical to his mother's. They have always been that way -- however (ironically enough) as of very recently, his natural eyes were replaced by a pair offered by GeneCo. They look identical to before though, so also considering he kept the surgery a secret between himself and his mother? It's no wonder no one realized he's had surgery done there. Also inherited from his mother is his lovely yellowy blond hair, which frames his face of all natural features.

The only scars Cloud has are on his chest, which he really doesn't show off, so to the outward world the young man appears to be entirely natural.

Well, except for the one black wing fastened onto his left shoulder blade. It's a connection to his mother, who has two of those same wings -- and although he keeps all his reasons to himself as best he can, the status of his opera singing mother makes it obvious to most what the general connection is.

Back to the rest of his natural appearance. Standing at 5'7, Cloud is a little shorter than most men his age, but that definitely does not mean he is weaker than them. He's small and blond, sure, but look harder and one will see that he really does have a very strong build. He has both muscle and strength, which are results of his constant physical work.

Personality
Cloud tends to be a very quiet and withdrawn person. He's been known to come off as being quite antisocial, distant and sometimes even intimidating before -- but you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

Not so deep under that exterior is a perfectly likable person.

It's just hard to get to that aspect of him at first. He's socially awkward, sure, but he still has a compassionate heart that always underlines his decisions.

The blond also has a very strong urge to protect. His friends mean the world to him; but yet, but yet he still doesn't want to fully rely on or share his burden with them. Even though those friends often tell him they want to help, they are generally pushed back with Cloud's typical "I don't want you involved". So, as a result, he tends to isolate himself despite his dislike of being alone.

However! All that's not to say that Cloud is completely incapable of showing his softer side to people. In fact, when he feels comfortable enough with someone, he sometimes banters them, or openly shows them kindness and love. It takes a while to get to that stage though; but even so, he's still more laid back around casual friends than complete strangers. His dorky side has also been known to show up now and again -- likely a remaining trait he unknowingly adopted from his best friend somewhere along the way.

Background
In a world of imperfection and parents with at least two failing organs at any given time, it was a wonder that Cloud Strife had been born so healthy. An uncomplicated pregnancy and birth brought him into the imperfect world, and for years he lived in it without any defects. Not only that, but his parents loved him as much as he loved them -- he had a lovely, perfect life.

That didn't change the world they lived in though. And as young as he was, the little Cloud was still aware of that fact.

Maybe a little too aware.

He was very attached to his parents, especially his mother, and he was hellbent on protecting them from this awful world. He was strong and healthy, after all! Thus, he was always alert and on patrol. And one day, when the boy was still only five years old, an intruder happened upon the premises. It was another boy (whose name Cloud would later find to be Zack Fair), slightly older than himself, digging a hole in the backyard. Thinking that the boy was planning on digging his way in to rob them blind, Cloud promptly grabbed his trusty frying pan, went outside and smacked the boy across the head so hard that it actually knocked him unconscious.

Needless to say, Cloud was scolded and forced to apologize to the boy when he finally woke up on their couch. The little blond wasn't too enthusiastic about apologizing to a potential thief at first, but somehow, they have been best friends ever since.

Cloud continued on with his life and his wonderful health, oblivious to the struggles his unhealthy parents were going through.

However, all good things come to a end -- Cloud's health included. At seven years old, the little boy was finally beginning to experience the hardships the rest of the world had already faced. His lungs were beginning to fail him. Naturally, surgery was the easiest way to remedy this defect, but with a low income even between both adults and an already-expensive bill for his father's most recent surgery on his heart? It was something his parents wanted to avoid if they could. But the days and weeks rolled on, Cloud's condition suddenly became terminal, and they were left with a choice.

Cloud didn't realize this at the time, of course, but when his father made the choice to pay for Cloud's surgery, it was three days before his final payments on his heart from Geneco. were due.

The family didn't have the money for two surgeries.

In the years that followed, Cloud would come to blame and hate himself for his father's death. For now, he lived.

Years rolled on with the quiet boy still protecting his mother and brandishing frying pans at strangers, until his mother finally earned enough money to send her son to fighting and self-defense classes. Her career as an opera singer was finally starting to pick up. Cloud certainly had a gift for physical work, which was proved by the constant training he did throughout the years as his mother worked away. He started to do odd, innocent jobs when he hit his teens -- but he hit another turning point in his life at sixteen. Over the years, Cloud's self-hatred had been building inside his heart. It drove him to almost obsessively seek out the truth... which eventually led him to exact Repo Man who killed his father.

He knew he had only done his job -- but he couldn't forgive him. So one night as his mother soundly slept alone in her bed, the blond snuck out of the house, armed with a sharpened ornamental katana, and went to this man with murderous intents.

The weapon was left in that alleyway with its victim, but the blood remained on Cloud's hands when he returned home late that night. It would remain his secret.

The deed has made him feel both better and worse. He carried it with him, deep in the dark part of his heart, as the years rolled on by. Cloud progressively became quieter, more closed off to the world, and more distant. The only thing keeping him grounded were his few, but close, friends and his mother. He still had to protect them, no matter the cost! So now, at the age of twenty-one, Cloud is a certified body guard -- and close client of his own mother. However that job alone isn't enough to support himself, his mother (as she is not overly famous) and his secret addiction to zydrate that only Zack knows about; so on the side, he does a lot of odd jobs, working as a mercenary for hire.

Genetics & Alterations
His lungs, liver and eyes have all been replaced due to natural reasons. Cloud has but one cosmetic surgery, and it is also one of the most distinctive features about him; the single, beautiful, black wing that protrudes from his left shoulder blade. It's a tie to his mother, who has two of the same wings.

Samples

First Person

I tried making my own crepes today, but they're not the best. They're not like Zack's. I'm not as good as Zack when it comes to cooking.

Speaking of -- hey, Zack, you don't mind if I visit later, right?

I've... kind of run out of food and money to buy more.
Could you make a waffle or two for me too?

Third Person
(taken from another roleplay in this thread, sry)

The blond couldn't decide if he wanted to just tune her out until she was done or if he wanted to change the topic so he wouldn't have to. He didn't really have any idea at all how to have a discussion about pregnancy with a girl, especially not Yuffie, and certainly not when he had trouble thinking of her as anything but that 16 year old little sister figure he knew from his world.

And it was a little sad to say, but Cloud was almost grateful for the new distraction. Monsters he could deal with, pregnancy discussions he could not.

"I see it." He responded, bright blue eyes analyzing the possible enemy carefully. It looked dangerous -- and even if it wasn't, he didn't want to take any chances right now. "Follow me." His orders were short but demanding. Expecting the ninja to follow, he took a route around a building that he thought would get them out of the strange vine's way; but just ended up running into another group of them as they stalked their way out of alleys and shadows around the pair.

Cloud drew his sword then.

"Yuffie, draw your weapon and stay close to me." While Cloud saw Yuffie as someone he needed to protect, he also still saw her as a warrior. His brotherly love was oftentimes hard to shove away if one was close to him, like Yuffie was, but at least he could recognize their own strength.
