Two biology questions from a newbie

Hello all! Here are a couple of questions that have been circling in my mind for a while now:

1. In natural insemination, the male sperm cells have to cross quite a way to where an egg in a fertile state, this is a way to make sure that the one sperm cell who 'gets the girl' is the best of the bunch. I was just wondering if that means that in vitro fertilization does not include a procedure like that and what are the implications of that on the baby, or if any of you know if a process mimicking the 'race for the egg' is done?

2. I know we eat dairy products to keep our calcium levels healthy and I know raptors and other carnivores get their calcium quantities from small bone fragments in what they eat, but where do herbivores get theirs?
