I honestly think that much of the social aspect is that some people are more egocentric. Also, some people may, or may not recieve comments like that and feel that it is okay.
I personally had a lot of things happen to me as a hostess. Some things push you over the edge though. For instance, one evening an older man and woman were leaving the restraunt, and I spoke with them about their meal. The man, who was well over 65, leaned over and wispered to me, "your butt looks great in those jeans". His wife was standing right there. Considering I was at work I could not slap him. His wife hadn't heard the words he spoke, so I just ducked down covered my face and began to cry. It may seem like it wasn't that big of a deal, but knowing that someone has enough control over you to say whatever he wants, without any consiquence to his actions does hurt.
I think that may be why some people are so completly hurt. In public if an old man came up to me and said that I may or may not have a reaction, but at least I dont have to smile and say nothing happened.
If anyone has ever traveled to another country, and I dont know where you are all from, but there is a huge difference in culture as to how appropriate it is to make comments. In Mexico all the men called me Britney Spears, and they would constantly touch me. It took me a long time to get used to the fact that they thought it was okay. I still stood my ground and kept my distace. One man grabbed my ancle to put some braclet on it, and I kicked him, but I was raised to know that there is a personal space, and it needs to be respected. In one of my sociology classes we studied the different 'personal spaces' that different places have, and it was very interesting. Sorry, I have completly gotten off topic.

((I am not always so bad at contributing to discution, and I am really sorry, someday when I have more time I will use a bit of structer and make my points a bit more clear))

It sucks, I'm sorry, and I wish nobody had to be put in that position.
