I'd like to do a Soi Fong story once, but it's very hard to write her without making it about Yoruichi. Her connection with Yoruichi is pretty much the only private thing we know about her. It's not that I don't like Yoru and I am even a bit of a fan of the YoruSoi, but I would like to explore Soi Fong's character seperately

I think it's very hard to leave out Yuuta in any Syuusuke fic that's not very short. As you might now I like TezFuj and especially if it is not a lemon, but a story longer than say 2 chapters, I most of the time see references to his brother. I think for Yuuta too that it be a bit hard. If it's a different Yuuta pairing, well in MizYuu he's bound to come up. Also, with SaeYuu, Saeki has a connection with Syuusuke that I think might be mentioned. If it's non-pairing related, I think Syuusuke is very important for him as well as he actually switched schools because of him. Especially in the beginning of PoT he has a lot of unresolved issues surrounding his aniki.
Yup, the FMA is a good one. Never finished that one, but from the first 10 eps I could tell this was one of the main pillars of the series.
I didn't see GS, but from what you descrive it seems very hard to get those two characters to get away from each other then, ficwise :D

Saying that, you still could write something completely within "canon" by just setting it in the past which is touched upon in the anime and manga. I mean during the Hyoutei arc we get to see the relationship between Tezuka, Oishi and Yamato. There is a lot you can base things on. That promise between Tezuka and Oishi is one of the driving forces in Tezuka's life. It also wouldn't be so hard to write a long fic about Shishido that ends with him losing to Tachibana, which does happen within the PoT time line, and Ohtori would not need to be mentioned at all.
I would also probably argue that the video games are at least as much a part of "canon" as the anime and manga which often conflict with one another. The video games have the voice actors from the anime and art inspired by the manga. I'm not sure if they would count as anime or manga-verse or some weird amalgamation.
I actually planned to have some fun with my video game fic to come up with a "real" way to get my Yuuta pairing. Originally, I had planned to use avoidance of Syuusuke as a reason Yuuta picks the Hamlet group until I found out he canonically picks the Hamlet group to not be with Mizuki. lol
Ed/Al remains strong throughout the entire series and I've heard the movie. It's sort of interesting how Winry gets written out towards the end of the anime.
Even people who don't *LIKE* Asuran/Kira have to admit that their frienship is extremely strong. You could make a drinking game for everytime you see one of them having the flashback. (Which is so over the top, it's Asuran giving a robotic bird to Kira with sakura blowing past as they say good bye as cute little school boys.) I always felt Seed was competing with GB over which series could be the most over the top slashy.

I never really played videogames for anime, so I don't know about their canon. I think that if I played one though, I would treat just that specific one as canon. The one you're describing seems very interesting though... Hamlet, hehe :D
Past fics I don't really write, though I like reading them. For some reason I almost always write AU or future fics because of the freedom that they give. I do like to keep characters very close to what they are in the series though. So that limits options for AU, for if Tezuka had grown up in a hippy community, he would probably have been quite different.
Winny gets written out 0_o, I expected her to become more important somehow (get into the action more).
What you say about Seed makes me wants to watch it now ^_^;. For some weird reason I usually get into series because of fandoms, not the other way around.
And GB was very, very over the top. The only thing I didn't much like about it was how the female characters were a bit... I dunno weak and all.

The games are not their own separate verse, well except the make your dream team/make people play against one another ones. Generally, they're dating sims set in the actual PoT-verse. I haven't played them as I am not a gamer, but know a few things. This particular one I like because it pretty much destroys Yuuta liking Mizuki and plus gives me a chance to pair him with new more interesting characters. :P
Below are two caps from Hamlet. They were being shared a while ago on-line.
I don't read a lot of fic. *shrugs* I mostly RP. I like very AU, AUs. To me, Tezuka, no matter what his life was like at his core, is very honorable, committed, responsible and serious. I can see a Tezuka being raised by hippies still being Tezuka, but being different. There are certain things about him that I don't think would change. Recently, I've been having fun in making very un-PoT connected verses with Yuuta.
Yeap, Winry spend the last 5 or so episodes sitting on the sidelines. On the other hand, sidelines==survives FMA. lol
Seed is interesting. I watched it cause I adore Hoshi Souichirou. XD;; Seed is slashy on a level Wing can not begin to compare with (from the 20+episodes I saw), but also tries harder to make its boys straight. It's an interesting mix, though by the end of Destiny, it sort of feels like the writers have given up on het Asuran and Kira and in the ending credits of each episode, have them floating through space with their arms around one another. (They also seem to decide part way through Destiny that Kira needs a bigger role and up his screen time until the end of Destiny where you forget Shinn is supposed to be the main character.)
I adore Lux. She is a kickass female character. Frey is an evil bitch, and watching Wing after Seed you will not hate Relena, cause at least Relena tries and is not actively evil.
Actually, I liked Hevn and Natsumi. I adored the episode where Natsumi proves to be the Prince of Ping Pong and hope someday to see her kick Ryoma's ass. XD;;;

I had typed like 3/4 of a long reply when my comp froze, hence the late reply, sorry.
You really make me want to watch Seed now. I really do enjoy watching series with heavy subtext, more than actual yaoi series perhaps, since it leaves a lot open for fans.
Also I think with shoujo series, most of the feelings and motives are already being explained, while lots of shounen series look more from the outside. It leaves more room to fill in those characters thoughts I guess.
The game seems very interesting. The first time seeing that pic, I was thinking oh, Yuuta vs Atobe...0_o is that Oishi?!
He does like to dress up as a girl for plays and sport performances.
With this Oishi-seme has no hope of ever reviving again.

Seed is not yaoi, just VERY heavy subtext.
Well sometimes feelings are described, but other times things are sort of left open, even in Shoujo. lol
Really? A bunch of people on my flist were sharing them a while ago and a few made lj icons. lol
Keigo is Hamlet and Yuuta is Laertes. I actually think you could really easily write KeiYuu slash and not just because they're literally being slashy. lol
Yeap, Oishi gets a dress, he is Getrude and Ryoma plays Ophelia which makes me snicker.

After 2.5 years I got a little bored with PoT and Bleach is like a whole new fandom to love.
The game sounds like fun though and Ryoma as Ophelia? hehehe
KeiYuu slash, hmmm. I have a thing for BeKami and somehow I can see Atobe/Yuuta having a bit of the same appeal: Atobe with reluctant, easily embarassed, hotheaded uke.
