I went to St. L on Monday and did a bit of wine shopping. OK, I came home with an assorted case. And as I was doing this, I noticed that the Rose offerings have increased quite a bit. Which led me to wonder- are we getting away from the fear of all pink wine? Has the the maniacal grip of White Zinfandel (heretic to all that is wine-holy) loosened?
I noticed a nice Spanish Rioja Rose, from a winery I recognize and like, so I gave it a try. I shan't say how much it was, suffice to say I am proud of my deal hunting abilities. I'm also giving a go to the Charles Shaw AKA "2 buck Chuck" line. Got a Shiraz, a Merlot, and a Sauv Blanc. I'm not expecting brilliance, but I have heard acceptable reviews. There was also the usual smatterings of summer Sauvs to be had, from California to Spain, to Chile.
Now that my upstairs holdings are restocked, and I've added to my downstairs cellar, I feel much better about my choices about the house. I ought to start on the bottles I put away a couple of years ago, but it's so much fun to go find new and exciting things as well. Besides, I just hate to break up a nice vertical without a good reason to open them all to compare.
I should throw more dinner parties.
