Bangalore bleeding...

Sometime back I had commented on an entry posted here about Bangalore's worsening condition. I supported the BCC(etc...etc) authorities, saying things would improve!

I take back all the words I said then. Bangalore's going from bad to worse. Thousands of people coming in everyday, tons of vehicles plying on the road, sudden upsurge in the crime rate, and of course the incessant felling of trees, the list goes on. All in all it's chaos every single day!

I don't have to crib about the sickening traffic. All of us bathe in traffic jams every single day. I bet everybody would have become immune to the pathetic traffic and the pathetic Bangalore roads. The roads never seem to get repaired. The heavy rains since last week has added an icing on the cake. It's harrowing to think of people and vehicles getting washed away in open storm water drains. Does this happen anywhere else in the world ? We have a bunch of goons sitting in the Vidhana Soudha discussing and fighting about mediocre things and not even taking a look at the problems people are facing.

We have been hearing/reading about the increase in crime rate in Bangalore. A few people whom I know have been attacked and robbed near the vicinity of our office. 9:30 PM is no time for a person walking on a busy road to get mugged. This is what the police had to say "Such Incidents are bound to happen, it's the citizens responsibility to exercise common sense and not venture out at this time!". Thanks for that Mr. Police Commissioner. Next time I go out walking on a busy road, filled with people, with vehicles bustling around, at 9:30 in the night, I'll surely think twice about doing that!

I wanted to write particularly about yesterdays incident of crime committed against a minor. There have been lot of heinous acts like these in the past few months. The incident near Jnabarathi being one. There was much ado of the police nabbing a few culprits the following day of the Jnabarathi incident. What has happened after that? Nothing much! I don't think the real culprits have even been nabbed. Take yesterdays incident for example. The number of people involved in this cruel act were three. One of them being the owner of the setup where the victim worked. I know for sure these three rascals will go scott free after some time. These people deserve no mercy. The agony caused to the victims and their families is unthinkable. Such acts committed against helpless victims should be considered equal to murder, nothing short of it. They should not be given a 'free and a fair' trail. Once the crime is proved, punishment must be brutal and nothing short of it. But this never happens. Culprits walk out free most of the time, or get sentenced several years later they commit the crime. There is something seriously wrong somewhere. The police whose job is to ensure safety, are sitting on their butts, doing nothing.

And about trees. How many of us have helplessly seen a tree being cut down, for reasons which are no reasons for felling a tree? I bet all of us would have. Lots of trees snapped and fell down during last weeks heavy rains. Most of them were more than 100 years old. I bet if proper soiling was done to all of these huge trees, most of them could have been saved. But who has to do/direct this activity ? It's the government, the City Corporation backed by the City Mayor and nobody else.

There are lots of things that we ourselves can do. But there is a limit. Nothing can be done if the authorities themselves are irresponsible and good for nothing. Bangalore's changed a lot from what it was a few years back. It's not the namma Bengaluru I once knew, and it's just getting worse every single day!
