N: Good evening, this is Kazunari Ninomiya from Arashi! Tonight’s opening thought comes from radio pen name Mamicchi-san. Let me read it. “I was just watching TV when to my surprise, you were in a Mario CM, Nino. But congratulations. It made me incredibly happy. I’m sure with the ‘Nino effect’, their sales will multiply. If you have any behind-the-scenes stories from that Mario CM, do let us know.” Do you know about this? It goes on sale December 3rd. Mario.
S: Yes, I knew about it. I saw it.
N: It showed during MSta, too. (*note: Music Station)
S: Yes, it was showing.
N: Well...! Mario is amazing, when you put it that way. This time around, it’s like a massive compilation, this Mario-san.
S: Massive compilation?
N: Like World 1-1... whose in that CM? Probably Matsushima-san... anyway, that CM opens with World 1-1. They’ve... made it reflect the original World 1-1. But Three... but it’s Three. (*note: Super Mario Bros. 3) Fundamentally, anyway. That’s the impression I got playing it. Three is the fundamental idea, and they build on that. So, World 2 is the desert stages. Those desert stages were tough~! “What was your favorite item in the Mario games?” That’s where the conversation led during the filming of these CMs.
S: Right, right.
N: My favorite is the stone monk statue. (*note: formally known as Ksitigarbha, a deity in Buddhist teachings; in the game, this is a stone Mario statue)
S: The stone monk statue?
N: You don’t know of it?
S: I’m sure I’ll know if I saw it.
N: Well, of course.
S: [whisper] Right.
N: Yeah. Anyone would know if they saw it.
S: I see.
N: Yeah.
S: What about it did you like?
N: You could become a stone monk statue.
S: So, even if you’re being attacked...
N: I’m invincible.
S: Completely unharmed. Ah...
N: That... I think you press down+B, you become a stone monk statue. That was an effective move. Recently, there’s Penguin Mario, Propeller Mario... and two players can play at the same time.

N: Until now, Mario played, then Luigi had his turn. Now, Mario and Luigi can go on the adventure together.
S: That’s like a fantasy.

N: That was Chemistry-san’s “Ano Hi..., feat. Douji-T”. This is Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya bringing you BayStorm. Let’s move on to this segment: Shuffle Fight Keyword! [shuffles papers] Here we go. This is by radio pen name Bay FM to Arashi de BayStorm-san! (*Bay FM + Arashi = BayStorm!) Their keyword is ‘present’. “Jun-kun mentioned somewhere that he completed the puzzle, but that puzzle is for you, right? Did you receive it already? If so, he sure completed it in a very short amount of time. I’ve been curious about it, so do tell us.” I did receive it. But I think it’s been a month already. I got it during the Osaka concerts... on the way back. It was already inside the car on the way back, so... I must have received it then. I wanted to do a jigsaw puzzle. So, I said, “Buy me a jigsaw puzzle”. But he said, “You must be busy, Nino, so I’ll complete it for you.” So I received a completed puzzle. Don’t you get the urge to do jigsaw puzzles? Not really? You don’t seem like you’re good with ‘em.
S: I’m not good with them. Finding the right pieces and such.
N: Right, yeah, that’s the point of the game. You’re not good with that sort of thing?
S: No.
N: Then what game... what do you do?
S: Games?
N: Yeah.
S: The uncomplicated ones.
N: Aren’t jigsaw puzzles uncomplicated?
S: No, those are complex. They’re difficult.
N: Oh, really? I wish they sold frames for them, too, as a set. Even if they have to up the prices a bit. I can’t find the right frames for them. Jun-kun also said... that he... he had to order the right size frame or something. It’s hard to find. If they sold the frames as a set, jigsaw puzzles would sell more.
S: Jigsaw puzzles.
N: Whoever thought of jigsaw puzzles, anyway? Next... is this one? This one! From radio pen name Wii Fit tsuzuitemasu ka?-san (*Are you still keeping up with the Wii Fit?): Their keyword is ‘working out’. “Good evening, Nino-chan. Have you been working out those muscles? I’ve started working out myself, but according to my friend, you gain muscle mass three months after you start your training. Is this true? What do you think, STBY-san?” So it says.
S: What?! Me?
N: Yeah.
S: Well...! I wonder!
N: No way! Three months after training?
S: Three months later. Maybe she heard that somewhere, this person.
N: What do you say?
S: I don’t work out much... do you?
N: I work my abs.
S: Oh? And how has it been for you?
N: Uh, I gain muscle, even before three months. For me, anyway. In my case. Maybe it’s case-by-case. [laugh] Maybe she saw muscle gain three months later.
S: That could be it.
N: Yeah. But you know... I was told I have to work out recently, by my doctor. He told me I don’t have nearly enough muscle.
S: Y-You had mentioned something like that before.
N: Mm-hmm.

N: So, I have to work out, but... it’s too much work. Working out, I mean. Why is that? I want to discover a new way to working out. That’s what I thought as I trained.
S: How about "the invisible chair"? (*note: an isometric exercise where one puts their back against a wall and bends his knees, making it seem like he is sitting on an invisible chair)
N: Whaaat?! Way too much work.
S: Ah, so you mean you’d like to work out subconsciously, without putting in conscious effort?
N: Exactly. But life doesn’t work out that idealistically.
S: [whisper] It doesn’t.
N: Isn’t there a more innovative method?! Even when I think, “If it’s THIS, I can stick with it”, I end up quitting. That’s what I thought when I worked out. Hm, isn’t there a way somehow? Have you been moving around lately?
S: Not at all.
N: Did you go surfing?
S: About two weeks ago.
N: Oh, so you did?!
S: I did.
N: Even when the artists are so busy?!
S: Well, well. You know...
N: The employees at the recording label get relax time?
S: That’s not true.
N: Two weeks ago, you went surfing, hm? Well, that’s just spectacular. Two weeks ago... right? That’s around the time our single was about to go on sale.
S: Right.
N: Just days before the release.
S: Yes.
N: For how long?
S: Well, just in the morning.
N: You went in the morning...
S: Yes. Oh! But I got back home and headed straight for work after that.

S: What was it... I went to work for something. If I remember correctly.

Which printed body pillow would you go for, Ninomiya-san?” I don’t want one.
S: Naturally.
N: Don’t want one. Which one would you want, STBY?
S: Ah, I knew you’d ask me that. [laugh]
N: [laugh]
S: Well... I...
N: A body pillow... with each members’ faces printed on ‘em. Would those sell? [silence] No way they would!
S: Wouldn’t it be too close for comfort? It’s a body pillow.
N: Right.
S: There’s the face, right?
N: Yeah.
S: The face... well, since it’s not the real thing...
N: Yeah, since it’s a pillow.
S: Right. Can they even see the face? I wonder... would one be happy with one of those?
N: Well, I suppose one would be happy, yes. Right?

This is by radio pen name Wii no CM tenshon agatta yo-san (*The Wii CMs got me all excited): “During the Odoroki no Arashi a while ago, you attempted a revenge match to make cherry blossoms bloom in autumn, but failed yet again. The other day in class, we learned why cherry blossoms bloom in spring. It is said that a cherry blossom tree distinguishes the seasons based on the length of nights. In other words, longer nights mean wintertime, shorter nights means the season is changing to spring. Couldn’t you use this theory in your next revenge challenge?” Not doin’ that ever again. It’s absolutely tasking.
S: It is?
N: You bet it is! It’s probably the most tasking of all the experiments. Well, it doesn’t propose any life-or-death situations, but... It’s soooo bland! And troublesome.
S: I see, so you need patience.
N: Exactly! The salt boat is much easier... I don’t even remember the results of that salt boat. But that’s hard, I see. There are lots of theories! And of those, they decide which is most valid, right? There must be various theories. There’s the theory that when it’s warm, the tree thinks it’s spring. When it’s cold, the tree thinks it’s winter. That’s hard, these sorts of things. Deciding which theory is valid. Moving on. This is by radio pen name Maishu ikkai wa live DVD miteru yo-san (*I watch your concert DVD at least once a week). I bet she’s got it memorized. Like, “He goes this way, then that way.” Uh... “I watched the ‘My Girl’ PV and making of. The PV had such different meaning before and after watching the making of, and now, it’s one of my favorites! It was really fun watching you, Jun-kun, Riida, and Sho-kun play shiritori. (*note: a Japanese game where one player must say a word starting with the last syllable of the word said by the previous player) Do you all mingle that way in the greenroom?” STBY-san.

N: Yeah.
S: Well...! I wonder!
N: No way! Three months after training?
S: Three months later. Maybe she heard that somewhere, this person.
N: What do you say?
S: I don’t work out much... do you?
N: I work my abs.
S: Oh? And how has it been for you?
N: Uh, I gain muscle, even before three months. For me, anyway. In my case. Maybe it’s case-by-case. [laugh] Maybe she saw muscle gain three months later.

N: Yeah. But you know... I was told I have to work out recently, by my doctor. He told me I don’t have nearly enough muscle.

S: Ah, so you mean you’d like to work out subconsciously, without putting in conscious effort?
N: Exactly. But life doesn’t work out that idealistically.
S: [whisper] It doesn’t.
N: Isn’t there a more innovative method?! Even when I think, “If it’s THIS, I can stick with it”, I end up quitting. That’s what I thought when I worked out. Hm, isn’t there a way somehow? Have you been moving around lately?
S: Not at all.
N: Did you go surfing?
S: About two weeks ago.
N: Oh, so you did?!
S: I did.
N: Even when the artists are so busy?!
S: Well, well. You know...
N: The employees at the recording label get relax time?
S: That’s not true.

S: Ah, I knew you’d ask me that. [laugh]

S: Well... I...
N: A body pillow... with each members’ faces printed on ‘em. Would those sell? [silence] No way they would!
S: Wouldn’t it be too close for comfort? It’s a body pillow.
N: Right.
S: There’s the face, right?
N: Yeah.
S: The face... well, since it’s not the real thing...
N: Yeah, since it’s a pillow.

The other day in class, we learned why cherry blossoms bloom in spring. It is said that a cherry blossom tree distinguishes the seasons based on the length of nights. In other words, longer nights mean wintertime, shorter nights means the season is changing to spring. Couldn’t you use this theory in your next revenge challenge?” Not doin’ that ever again. N: You bet it is! It’s probably the most tasking of all the experiments. Well, it doesn’t propose any life-or-death situations, but... It’s soooo bland! And troublesome.
S: I see, so you need patience.
N: Exactly! The salt boat is much easier... I don’t even remember the results of that salt boat. But that’s hard, I see. There are lots of theories! And of those, they decide which is most valid, right? There must be various theories. There’s the theory that when it’s warm, the tree thinks it’s spring. When it’s cold, the tree thinks it’s winter. That’s hard, these sorts of things. Deciding which theory is valid. Moving on. This is by radio pen name Maishu ikkai wa live DVD miteru yo-san (*I watch your concert DVD at least once a week). I bet she’s got it memorized. Like, “He goes this way, then that way.” Uh... “I watched the ‘My Girl’ PV and making of. The PV had such different meaning before and after watching the making of, and now, it’s one of my favorites! It was really fun watching you, Jun-kun, Riida, and Sho-kun play shiritori. N: “Making of” is exactly how Shinigami defined it. You’re filming in addition to the actual filming. So, during the take... during the take, the cameras filming aside from the actual cameras that are for filming purposes... those footages become the “making of”, right?
S: I see.
N: And candid shots are a glimpse into our greenroom, for example. So doesn’t that make that a candid shot? That’s the argument here.
S: Then, let’s call it “Candid shot-making of”.
N: That’s been obvious since a long while ago. But this is nice to hear.

S: Because being eco-friendly is the “in” thing now. So you pour hot water into it, then place it in the fleece covering for use.

S: At least a few hours. Quite a while.

S: True. Well... three or four hours, I’d think. They’ll be able to enjoy it for that time.
