I'm so excited I can barely control my enthusiasm, despite a fever and a cold. I've translated some news that gives a pretty thorough description of the drama. :) The original can be found
here, for Japanese readers.
NOTE: This translation contains a synopsis and Aiba-chan's thoughts regarding his role. I wouldn't consider these to be spoilers, but if you don't want to know anything about it, don't look below the cut. ^^

Arashi's Aiba Masaki (26 years old) will play a leading role in a drama series, scheduled to start in October on TV Asahi (Friday nights at 11:15pm~ ). The title of the drama is called, "My Girl", and he will play a man who, after having lost his ex-girlfriend, learns that he has a daughter. This drama completes the circle, as all of the Arashi members will have starred in a drama series, a barometer of sorts that measures their popularity. As they welcome their 10th anniversary, they continue to climb the ladder as national icons.
Aiba will play the role of Kazama Masamune, a man who is unable to forget his ex-girlfriend, Yoko, though they broke-up six years ago. One day, upon hearing the tragic news about her death, he also learns that he has a daughter, Koharu. The two start living together. The original script is written by Sahara Mizu, who publishes her manga in a weekly named, "Comic Bunch Weekly". The story follows the relationship between Masamute and Koharu and is filled with elaborate descriptions which brought popularity to this work.
When you speak of Aiba, he is most known as Arashi's "mood-maker" (aka, he's always happy). In variety shows, he's known for his enthusiasm and zaniness. For such a guy to play a father who has lost his lover, we may expect to see a different side of him. "The story itself is rather heart-breaking, but I was able to relate completely with Masamune's positive attitude. I hope I get to show-off a different kind of Aiba Masaki", he says, regarding his enthusiasm for his role.
Up until now, he has starred in about 20 TV drama series. This past spring, he played a brilliant, young man who pulls himself out of devastation by finding his love for gardening in the stageplay, Green Fingers. This difficult role helped improve and hone his acting skills.
Because Arashi's 10th anniversary tour begins late this month, he will begin filming for the drama earlier than usual, on the 8th, after careful thought.
Producer Nakagawa's thoughts: "Masamune is a man who only had feelings for the same woman for six years. Any woman would dream of such pure love, and I couldn't think of anyone else other than Aiba-san to play this role." She feels strongly about the reason why she picked him. She also adds, "On screen, this will be the first time he will play a father role, but on the same token, he carries uncertainties and internal conflicts that are distinctly for a man in his mid-twenties. Amidst all this, I hope you'll focus on how Aiba-san matures and how charming he becomes."
