Turkey weekend part 1

Oct 09, 2005 08:06

So, I don't think my family has tramautized kragars_shadow. Yet. There's still plenty of time. They just have to try harder. *grin*

So despite the fact that both of us now have colds, the weekend is going well. After finally arriving at my grandparents at 10:30 Friday night, we stayed up and talked for a bit then had good sleep(country quiet, no electrical room hum, no cat attacking feet kinda sleep. Sleep good.)

Saturday morning my cousins L (age 8) and A (age 5) came over to help me make the apple pie for dinner last night. We figured out that the vegetable peeler was a little too much for L to handle, so I peeled apples and instructed the two girls on how to make the sauce stuff. Then we made "rainbow cookies" (chocolate chip cookie dough with M&M's in it - although I was informed that the proper way to make rainbow cookies was with slightly crushed Smarties, not M&M's).

An interesting point in the cooking escapade came when the girls asked me what happened between myself and E. They missed him. I told them that we were still friends, we just decided we couldn't be boyfriend and girlfriend anymore. I told them they could still call E and talk to him and torture him about his "fear" of monkeys, any time they wanted. They seemed okay with that. :o)

After then chasing L and A across my grandparent's lot, (boy they can run fast) kragars_shadow and I headed up to my parent's new place in Chesley to help prepare dinner. After much chaos, we fed 20 people. My proudest moment was cooking my first pork roast - I've never thought I could digest it (my tummy doesn't like meat) so I never bothered to try before. So after discovering that there were four spices in my parent's kitchen (salt, pepper, italian seasoning and poultry seasoning) and that the garlic they had was rotten, I discovered the following:

Cover pork in worshishire.
Then cover in honey mustard.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Pour 1/2 bottle of Waterloo Dark Beer into bottom of pan.
Roast.

Oh dear god you should have tasted the gravy. I don't know if my grandmother added anything to it, but wow.

Downside on not visiting parents until Saturday - no time with parents. Mom had to leave at 8:00 (not 8:45 like I thought - oops) to go to service 1 of 3 this morning. And dad took her. They won't be back until 11:45 - about 45 mins after we plan on leaving. Boo.

So now today we're off to kragars_shadow's family's trailer/cottage in Bayfield. We just have to plan our route. I'm sure we can get there from here.
