Gothy animations

I got to see Corpse Bride on Friday night with Jason and the regular movie group. It was quite good in most respects. The animation was beautiful, the voice-acting great, and it bore the usual Tim Burton atmosphere of doom and gloom with a shadowy glimmer of hope hanging around in the background. The only real disappointments, in fact, were the songs. The Nightmare Before Christmas has one of the best original movie soundtracks ever, and since Danny Elfman was doing the music for Corpse Bride, I expected similar greatness. Alas, it was not so. After seeing Nightmare for the first time, I had "This Is Halloween" and "Jack's Lament" stuck in my head for days. I'm wracking my brain and can barely remember a line from each of the songs in CB, and there wasn't a single song that I have any desire to ever listen to in any context outside of watching the movie again. Still, that desire to watch it again is high, so obviously the good outweighed the bad.
