Assimilate?

The degree of my removal from the Ruissian immigrant community mostly passes me by unnoticed
I mean, in my daily life my friends on LJ and the various comms I belong to are the extent of contact I require.

But during a trip across the street  to The Record Bar, Shaun, one of the owners, asked me which vodka he should serve to Mummyi Troll, who are playing there on  October 18.

The band is apparently going to sell out the small capacity venue, and they want to make them feel welcome

I hope that after playing stadiums across the great expanses of Mother Russia and the rest of the world, Ilya Lagutenko is not going to be a little prima donna...I have worked long and hard on establishing the name Ilya as a positive and meaningful thing in KC, where, AFAIK, I am still the only Ilya most people know. :))

What Shaun and Tim, the bar manager, have told me is that 90% of the ticket sales so far have been to the immigrants from Russia and other post-Soviet geographic locations. Together with the fact that I am not a fan of brit-pop in Russian, which the band plays, it made me feel doubly certain I will not be attending the concert.
This is about the only thing I've enjoyed from them,  and even that's due more to the video, and not the music

Maybe it's the degree of assimilation, which makes me feel so distant from other people in the city who share a birthplace and a native tongue with me, but I don't believe this is the issue in this particular case.
After all, I am quite certain that most of my friends on the Russian side of Lj wouldn't want to go either.
Nevertheless, I hope the band enjoys my recommended vodka - "Russian Standard" :))

it's the fear so unclear man in motion going nowhere
in our homes stuck in the face spread the word to the populace
live journal live journal set the pace feel the rage
manifestations of a sort so insidious off the point
