Went out last night to see a site specific installation of dance and video at The Nelson Arts Gallery by the Quixotic Ensemble
I was actually very impressed with the video projection work, probably more so than the dancers/acrobats (I've seen them several times already, and it's all about the "new" experience for me when it comes to performance art)
It's funny. Back in the 80s, the steps of the Gallery, where the performance took place was the unofficial place for punks and other underground music types to hang out afterhours. The memories instantly came back as I walked past a few signs announcing that the area was for "members only" and "private". The old punk rock ethic of "whatever" woke within me, and I walked right past the signs, ropes, and a few distracted security persons, to perch on the edge of a wall next to a giant Greek amphora, just like we used to back in the day.
Unfortunately, the camera on my phone sucks...but here I am leaving the event.
