There was actually someone out there who friended me, out of the blue, which kind of 'threw me for a loop'...
I'm new to this, but said friend said I should go out there and make new friends, so I thought I should at least post a first entry, just in case someone is interested after reading a comment I made, 'cause that's why I joined LJ in the first place, posting comments about stuff I liked...
Like I said in my bio, I'm German and live in a little town near Cologne. People in Cologne have their own 'constitution' and one paragraph says 'Live and let live!' That's what being a 'Kölner' is about and I'm a firm believer.
I'm married, happily, and we've got two kids, who are old enough to get by on their own. Which means I've got a lot more free time on my hands nowadays than I used to have.
I'm also a teacher. Which is a job and a hobby. Someone, and I shamefully admit I don't know who, once said 'Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire!' and that's the second thing I firmly believe in. Although I have to concede that I've lost some of my illusions over the years... Not everybody feels enthusiastic about analyzing Shakespeare or Barak Obama's latest speech or is interested in the difference between 'happy' and 'happily'...
So, well, that's basically it. I'll be going on commenting on stories I like and I'll see what happens...
