This just in my in box, from my fabulous, fiercely creative friend, Maya: Tuesday Poetry!
Introducing 10-line Tuesday, a once-weekly word-byte of poetry to brighten up your second weekday morning from writer-person Maya "Papaya" Stein. If you are interested in receiving a wee bit of verse once a week in your inbox, wonderful. If not, she completely understands and will not be offended in the least if you decide to unsubscribe. Goodness knows she sifts through enough emails a day to reaching her own boiling point of inundation.
If you choose to subscribe, Maya promises pragmatic but pithy poetry, an occasional epiphany or two, and at the very least a healthy handful of adult-sounding vocabulary. She will try hard to cut back on her tendency to alliterate, which can get excessive and socially off-putting. In any case, this is what you'll get: 10 lines of feral poetry each Tuesday, come rain or shine, writer's block or torrent. 10 lines. Poetry in easily digestible slices. This is what Maya promises.
And so, a sample:
--------
kiss
take your fingers and place them like latticework
around your lover's neck.
cup your palms around the jaw.
press thumbs to each earlobe.
do not move more than you absolutely have to.
imagine, for a moment, you are holding porcelain.
do not let go. do not let this go.
forget about your mouth.
a kiss is all
in the hands.
Now, wasn't that nice? Refreshing and invigorating. Like a little mini-vacation, like you can take a sip of your coffee and drift awayto one of those magical faraway places like they do in the instant cappuccino commercials. It makes Daily Candy look like a turd.
