The military (army reserves national guard) paid for my entire undergraduate tuition. It gave me some unique experiences of meeting some really incredible people, doing things few people can claim they have, helped me proudly defend my country and met some of the coolest people in my life. I saw 5 countries in the Carribean and Europe and have free medical and reduced rate education for the rest of my life at a myriad of high-level universities. And most importantly, it gave me invaluable training for everything I've done in my life since and will do in the future. I am a better person for it by far, and I would be apt to say that the military is a wonderful move for you.
However, considering when I joined the military in the 90s, it was a different world then. Things have changed in the past five years (as you know) and things are a bit different in the military now. The prospect of you serving in a hostile environment for a long time (at least a year) is very real. It wasn't for most of my time in service until 2002 (I left earlier this year). Whatever your beliefs, values or goals in life, I only suggest that you are completely aware of that before you make your decision. Any more questions you have please feel free to email me offline and I will answer anything you might want to know as best I can.
