i decided, per barb, to start writing in here again. basically just going back to the good ol' recount of the day sort of thing, so if you don't want to hear about my work, you might as well ignore my posts for the summer. not a prob.

so i have this job at a place called The Potting Shed in Portsmouth, RI. It's basically a privately owned nursery [plants] and landscaping company, that this married couple owns and its on the land that their house is on. They [Donna and Jim] and their three kids [Megan, 17; Jillian, 14; and Ian, 13... we're establishing a character list here, folks] all work there, 7 days a week, 8am-7pm. Well, the kids don't work all day, and Jim is usually out with the landscaping crew most of the day, but... more on that later.

basically, i go to work 1030-7 fri-tues and what i do is water my assigned area [4 greenhouses, 1 outdoor area, and the driveway], water whatever areas are not being taken care of because it's someone else's day off, and then do whatever chores my boss, Donna, gives me. Plus, i get a bitchin walkie talkie that makes me seem important. that's the VERY general layout of what i do. generally everything i get to do is either strenuous/heavy, dirty/messy/wet, or mind numbing. but, seriously, i really like my job. everyone is entitled to complain about their job, even if they like it. we all have those days.

and what helps me get through those days? the people i work with. so, let's introduce them, shall we?
we already covered the family, and throw in their dog, tyler, the 15 year old springer spaniel. then we have the potting shed girls, the ladies who stay athe nursery all day like me and don't go on jobs; there's patty, she's about 30-35, but young for her age. she works up front [up at the cash register and with the front plants]. she's been working there only a little longer than me. and then there's doe doe: older woman, 55-60? she reminds me of my gramma because she has a ton of energy and is always doing stuff. she makes the greenhouses look so nice, and she loves me. she thinks i'm just the only 20 year old who knows what a hard day's work is. her real name's christine. she usually works with norma, 18ish year old girl from guatemala who hardly speaks any english but is way cool, si. and finally jen, she's my age and goes to st anselm and lives in tiverton. she's definitely a cool cat, and we like to hang out when we're there on the same days, avoiding doing work or trying to get assigned tasks to do together, and basically chitchatting about school and the summer and stuff. so that's the girls. oh. and, about two weeks ago they finally hired a guy who DOESN'T go out with the landscaping crew and stays back at the nursery with us. ryan is a nice guy, graduated from RWU, i came to find like two days ago. he's quiet, but he waters the enormous outdoor section out back [so i don't have to! except on his day off] and now jen and i don't get called to carry heavy stuff, etc all the time anymore. because before, we were the mans of the house.

right, but now 'the guys'. we have a landscaping/construction crew that goes on jobs pretty much everyday all over RI, and Jim goes with them. theres rob, eric, pablo, chris/chico, and rob jr. theyre all pretty cool, all mostly young guys except rob, who is like second in command and is the father of chico and rob jr. they like me cause i can pick up heavy stuff and everything and not ask them to help me, haha.

and randomly, there's ky. he's our carpenter and he's working on the addition to the house. i'm not sure if he's like a permanent specialty worker for the landscaping crew or what, but my second day there, he caught a baby snapping turtle. and that makes him pretty cool in my book.

yeah so this entry was actually interrupted by my going to work. and now im too tired to finish. to be continued....
