Notes: All the poetry that have been showing up on my f-list lately made me wonder if I could translate some of my old stuff. This is a combination (!) of two original poems, one rhymed and one written with Sapphic metre, but it got lost in the translation (it was either that, or I’d have to sacrifice the content). I only had to change one pronoun and the implied eye colour to imply Mirandy! (The “you” can be read as Miranda or Andy [or Serena?], as you wish. It seems like I’m always making poor Emily having unrequited feelings for Miranda when I feel like writing something less happy, rather than using Andy’s pov. Maybe that’s why I like to read Emily/Serena fluff so much!)
You are a tree with far-flung branches
But I am not the ground; she is.
I am a restless shadow, bent in reverence
And all I know is this:
I want to be the kind of person
You can see by your side; I want
To answer all your questions,
As if I were grown in the same forests,
A leaf from the same branch and
Just as rooted. And the fire burns
With a sacred flame in your eyes, like
The autumn sky, and I am only
The stone on the ground.
