I'm still watching Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou (book related mysteries) and Hi wa mata noboru (a plice officer, his students, and his wife on the run with a super handsome man criminal), but I also began watching Hotaru no hikari, which is more like a romantic comedy. I laughed out loud a few times while watching the second episode, and I like it even though it's silly and even strange, from my poiny of view.
In the first episode, we see a group of young women, office worker, going out for a drink after work. One of them says something like : "Did you know there are women who are our age that just go home after work, change into comfortable old clothes, put their hair up in a weird style, drink beer from the can and talk to cats?" And the other girls are like "no, really? who are these people?!" (These are not actual quotes, but something along those lines.) Well, that's a description, anyway, of the main character, who puts on a facade at work but likes to relax once she's in her own home. This is funny because I'm like what, why is that a problem?! Sure, her place is very messy, and she whines and shouts quite a lot when she talks and she's a bit silly, but other than that, it looks to me that she's perfectly normal!
This reminds me a lot about Last Cinderella, because Sakura also likes t obe herself and doesn't care about what other people say about it. Just like Hotaru, she's not thinking about love until... well, until the first episode. Also, there's a man (the manager at work) who likes to tell them how stupid they are and how they are not at all like a real woman (because a real woman is elegant and lady-like at all times, obviously... it's so strange that people can say things like that!). And I think that just like in LC, this man is going to fall in love. (Funny that it's the same actor in both of these dramas, he looks younger here, though. And this time, I actually hope that he gets the girl, because so far I can't see anything interesting about the guy Hotaru has a crush on.) BUT unlike (the younger) Hotaru, Sakura is the same all the time, even at work - she doesn't pretend to be somebody whose top priority is to be pretty and cute, so she doesn't have to hide her true self. Then I'm sure there are lots of other differences as well, but so far it looks to me like LC is sort of an updated version of Hotaru no hikari.
My classmate who's responsible for my Japanese drama watching said once that she's a "dried fish woman". That's an expression they use a lot here! (It's so hard to believe it, though, when a character says things like "I suppose my love life is over forever and I'll be a dried fish woman until I die" [again, not an actual quote] and the actress is insanely pretty. The same thing when people called Sakura "an old lady" and things like that...)
