I recently read a book called Saker som aldrig händer ("Things that never happens"), a YA novel. (For school.) I'm not sure why I took it exactly, it just "looked good". It's a story about a boy who has been living with his mother for almost ten years. In the beginning of the book, he has moved back in with his father in the house where he grew up. He starts to reconnect with the next door neighbour, his childhood best friend. He also has a girlfriend. Then, things go wrong. Problems with his girlfriend, who has been seeing another guy behind his back - and his best friends knew about it. So he feels betrayed by everybody, and starts hanging out with his old friend. At first, just because he doesn't have anyone else, but they're soon having a very good time together despite everything.
Very early on in reading this, I was like: "hey, that guy is totally into you; can't you tell?!"... And yes, it turned out to be true! The ending was kind of open; not obvious wether the main character starts liking the other guy as more than a friend (there were definitely some hints of mutual attraction, after all) or not.
That wasn't why I liked it, though. I just found it... interesting... the way this boy was dealing with the breakup and all the feelings... I was like "yeah, I totally get that; I felt something like that, too..." as if it was reassuring somehow to see that the way I reacted and felt was similar... (not that the situation was the same, but the pain that followed). And then I felt a bit pathetic for being the same as an eighteen-year-old, but what can I do...
The anime I'm watching now has a somewhat similar story, or at least in the very beginning: a girl moves back to where she grows up, and meets her childhood friend again. (It's Aoi hana. Someone told me it's good.) I can't tell yet if the two of them are going to be a couple in the end, though, because right now they both have other people whom they seem to be very interested in! Or at least the main character, Fumi - she was on a date with this older girl just now. On the other hand, she doesn't talk a lot (but is blushing and crying a lot more!) so I'm not really sure about what she's thinking and feeling. But I know that she was heartbroken when her older cousin got married, poor girl! Anyway, I like this.
I finished Piano. Now that I've seen all of it, I can say that it was very predictable, actually - but the piano teacher was a bit mysterious! He just left without a word. Well, I guess I can sort of see why, but now that I think about it, I would have wanted a different story! I want his story. Who/what made him so sad? What's he going to do next? Where did he get to know the main character's older sister? Why did he leave? etc.
Also, I watched a movie tonight: I Am Sam. My study group and I are going to talk about it tomorrow and come up with a plan for lessons... I don't know how it's going to end, but we were all supposed to watch a movie, and my group took this one...
