Haylie and Adriana were relaxing over a cup of coffee talking about their plans for Christmas.
“So, how are things going with your guy? You’ve been together for several weeks now, right?” Adriana asked her friend.
“Try two months and a half!”
“Wow! That long? Time just seems to fly by these days. I hadn’t noticed it’d been that long since you two first met.”
“Yeah, we met on the same day you moved in, remember?”
“Yeah, I remember now,” she said and then added smiling “And I must say you look so happy!”
“Yeah, right? I mean I know we haven’t been dating for long...but he’s incredible! Too bad his job keeps him away.”
Adriana looked at her friend’s lovesick eyes and said “Girl, I think you’re totally falling for him.”
“Yeah...I think I am, right?”
“You totally are! And I’m really happy for you.”
“So, how about you? Is there anyone special in your life? What about that guy?”
“What guy?”
“Come on, you know exactly who I’m talking about, that elevator guy, the one you bumped into a couple of times.”
“Oh, him.”
“Duh, him!”
“Not much. I haven’t seen him in quite a while actually.”
“Oh, sorry to hear that, sweetie!”
“Yeah, whatever.”
“You know, I think I’ve got the perfect solution for you.”
“You do?” she asked seeing the suspicious look in her friend’s eyes and wondering what she was up to.
“See, Jay and I are going to this kind of pre-Christmas party on Friday right before the holidays...what are you doing then? Wanna come?”
“What? Just like that? It’s not like you’re the one throwing the party, Haylie!” Adriana replied almost laughing.
“I know that, but Jay said I could bring a friend. And I thought it’d be a good chance for you to meet him and, you know, meet some other people too since you’re new in town and all.”
“Haylie, I know you and my guess is there’s a lot more to it than what you’re letting on.”
“Not really. I just want you two guys to meet.”
“Come on, spill, girl...like right now.”
“Well, it’s just that Jay’s got this friend that is coming too so why don’t you join us?”
“...and be his date? Seriously? I don’t know, I don’t think it’s such a great idea.”
“Oh, come on! You’ll have fun, meet new people. We’ll all have a great time.”
“I’m not sure...you know how hard we've been working lately...I was thinking maybe I could relax and get some rest. Besides I’m not really looking for a boyfriend right now, I’m too busy at work and...” Adriana said thinking “Yeah, right, it’s not like you’re thinking of that gorgeous guy 24/7…no, not at all!”
Haylie knew her friend very well, though, and saw right through her.
“Please, what are you gonna do, girl, stay home all by yourself when you could be having a great night out?” Haylie insisted.
“Okay, okay, I guess it’ll be good for me.”
“That’s the spirit!”
Haylie’s phone rang and as it was her boyfriend, she answered the call immediately. She talked softly on the phone while Adriana went to get some muffins for them, and told him she was bringing her friend over to the party so Jay’s friend had a date now.
“He’d better be nice to her...”
“Please, baby, I told you he’s a really nice guy. He’s really polite and sweet...a true gentleman!”
“He’d better be! Seriously, I can’t believe I let you talk me into this.”
“Come on, it’s just one date. Besides, there’ll be lots of people at the party so if they don’t get along, they can always talk to someone else. It’s not like they’re going to get stuck with each other. I mean, there’s gonna be lots of people there to talk to.”
Jared didn’t tell Haylie but it hadn’t been that easy to make Jensen agree to come to the party either. He’d kept saying he was not in the mood for that sort of thing and it’d taken all of Jared’s persuasion and his patented puppy-dog eyes to make him change his mind.
Jared had to admit to himself, though, that he wasn’t thrilled about the party either. They’d been very busy shooting the show and they’d go to LA for just one day to attend this thing and then fly to their home towns to spend Christmas with their families. As a matter of fact, the only reason he was going down to LA was to see Haylie.
The evening of the party Haylie was with Adriana having a drink. They were waiting for Haylie’s boyfriend who’d called earlier explaining their flight had been delayed meaning they’d be an hour late or so.
The place was crowded with people and at some point, Adriana needed some air so she headed outside to try and relax for a while. Truth be told, she wasn’t that comfortable at the party. She didn’t know anybody and she actually wasn’t in the best mood: she’d been working like crazy during the past few weeks and was in serious need of a rest. The only reason she’d agreed to come was because Haylie had insisted a lot.
But that wasn’t the only reason she didn’t feel at ease there. The place was filled with ridiculously good-looking people, basically models/actors, and she didn’t have much in common with them -actually, she had nothing in common- and after several attempts at making conversation, she’d given up. She even felt underdressed: everybody was obviously wearing expensive designer clothes, and she was in a plain red shirt and black pants.
Hence, she decided to spend a few minutes by herself on the terrace. It was actually a nice and quiet place. There were some plants and the walls were painted in earth colors which she found soothing. She’d been there for barely fifteen minutes when Haylie showed up.
“What are you doing here, sweetie? I turned around and you were gone.”
“Nothing, just needed some fresh air and you seemed to be having a nice time chatting to those two girls.”
“Oh, please! Those two bottle blondes? Most boring conversation of my life! Anyway, wanna go back inside now? Jay’s just called and said they’ll be here in a few.”
“Yes, sure,” Adriana answered smiling back at her friend and doing her best to pretend she was actually enjoying herself.
She wasn’t comfortable among those people. She felt completely out of place, but she didn’t want to ruin her friend’s evening so she decided she’d hide it the best she could and make an effort to try and enjoy herself -or at least pretend it!
The girls were making conversation with some guy that had approached them a few minutes ago when Haylie spotted her boyfriend in the crowd -not surprising considering Jared’s height! He walked straight to her with a big smile on his face that showed all of his white teeth and kissed her.
Adriana couldn’t help noticing something familiar about him, she couldn’t help feeling that she’d met him before, but she had no idea where and the guy was too busy kissing Haylie -deeply- to be bothered with any questions! Adriana grinned, glad for her friend, seeing how much this guy liked her and then, out of the blue, she saw Jensen standing right there behind him.
“It’s you!” they both said in synch and utterly astonished.
“Hang on a sec...are you Haylie’s boyfriend’s friend?”
“You, guys, know each other?” Haylie asked with her arm around Jared’s waist.
“Yeah, we do!” they answered in unison, their gazes locked.
They both smiled and explained about the elevator, the restaurant and the number of times they’d run into each other. And Adriana mentioned she’d even met Jared before, at the restaurant. The couple laughed slightly amused by all the strange coincidences, and immediately noticed the way Jensen and Adriana were looking at each other and shared a smile.
They all talked for a short while and then the men explained they’d go get some drinks. And, as soon as they were gone, Haylie stepped closer to Adriana and whispered “Elevator guy, huh? Cute!” which made Adriana blush and giggle a little.
Jensen spent the rest of the night hovering around her. He got her drinks, a plate with some food, and made sure she was okay, both smiling at each other the whole time. Haylie and Jared noticed it immediately and felt happy for their friends.
They’d been chatting for quite a while and were all going to get some refills when Jared pointed at Jensen and Adriana and said “hey, you two are standing under the mistletoe!” Jensen and Adriana looked up and blushed. Then Haylie quickly stepped in guessing where Jared was going with the whole thing and said “Come on, guys, you know the tradition, you gotta kiss.”
Jensen and Adriana looked at each other shyly and then he stepped closer to her, placed one hand on her waist and drew her closer to him. He looked into her eyes and licked his pouty lips while he put his other hand on the back of her neck and pressed his lips on hers. He was tender and sweet, and as he brushed soft kisses on her lips, he stroked her jaw line with his thumb.
He got lost in her warmth and felt the urge to pin her against the wall, plunder her mouth and roam her body as images of his dream filled his brain, and it took all of him to control himself. Still, he was having a good time -a great time, actually!- at least, until he brushed a fourth kiss and she put her hand on his chest and gently pushed him away, which left him staring at her in confusion and need -and even slightly annoyed- longing for her lips.
She broke the kiss -though ‘kisses’ was a more accurate word- nervously and they both blushed feeling the desire that had built between them.
The scene didn’t pass unnoticed to their friends, who seeing Adriana’s nervousness suggested getting their drinks to break the tension. The men then walked away towards the bar. Jared wanted to give the girls some space so that they could talk a little. He had a sister and he knew very well how women behaved in this kind of situations. But Jensen didn’t want to spend a second away from her and both men were back within minutes carrying some champagne and strawberries dipped in fudge before the girls had the chance to talk about what had just happened between the blonde and the brunette.
“Mmm...my favorite...I hardly ever drink, actually, but all this is simply delicious!” Adriana said as she nibbled on a strawberry and sipped at her glass doing her best to act casually, trying to put behind their kiss. In honest truth, she was somewhat confused by it all not knowing whether she’d actually felt his soft kisses or if it’d been a figment of her prolific imagination!
“I guess I’ll have to remember that then,” Jensen whispered in her ear with a playful smirk.
They spent a wonderful time together and at the end of the evening Jared took Haylie aside, looked into her eyes and said “I wish I didn’t have a plane to catch...I’d love to spend the night with you” before kissing her passionately and leaving. Jensen saw them out of the corner of his eye and then looked at Adriana, who was getting her coat a few feet away from him, and he wished for the exact same thing.
Jared and Jensen got on the plane and headed straight to their seats. They buckled up and tried to relax a little. Jensen had a dreamy gaze and couldn’t stop thinking of her soft luscious lips. Naturally, his friend noticed right away and couldn’t hold his chuckle.
“What?” Jensen asked with a frown.
“You’re totally into her!” Jared replied amused.
“Yeah, I guess I am,” Jensen admitted smiling softly.
Jared was glad to see his friend so happy, especially after all those months of suffering miserably, and he went on talking.
“You know, Haylie says she’s really great.”
“Really? Can’t wait to find out!”
Then, Jared explained that Haylie’s brother had been in a nasty accident several months ago and that back then most of her so-called friends had turned their backs on her when she’d needed them the most. Unlike them, Adriana had been incredibly supportive and helped her a lot even though they’d just met.
“Wow! Seriously?” Jensen asked.
“Yeah, that’s how they got so close...they’re practically sisters now. Haylie says she’s the kind of person you want around when things get rough.”
Jensen was nicely surprised by all this. So, she was not only gorgeous but also caring and supportive. He couldn’t believe his luck, she seemed to be like him in many ways: she truly cared about her friends and family and wasn’t at all into all that stupid celebrity stuff.
Jared saw right through him and wanted to ask him why on earth he hadn’t asked her out yet, but he didn’t want to push things because he remembered what had happened last time with Natalie. So, he decided it was better to give him some space and let him figure things out for himself.
