Last night I took part in a Woody Guthrie sing along to benefit the Northampton Center for the Arts. Can you think of anything more folky and grassroots? Hundreds of people came to sing Woody Guthrie songs! Pretty crazy... I was worried when we did the run through because no one had really memorized their songs and N&K (the organizers) were throwing verses at us for songs that we didn't know.. plus there were sheets of lyrics strewn EVERYWHERE! But, it went pretty seamlessly and we raised $3,000! They had the lyrics projected onto a big screen behind us and people really got into it... I did "California Stars" which is a gorgeous song with Woody G. lyrics put to music by Wilco and Billy Bragg. So, I kind of cheated but the only Woody song I know is "This Land Is Your Land"..
Afterwards we went to Packard's and talked about lots of fun things like artistic insecurity and jealousy! There were fun things that we talked about for real, but the jealousy stuff dominated for much of the night.
